"Merci!" Amberley smiled at the bus driver as he drive away, and turned around to face the headquarters of Grimm HQ.
She had been in shock after Addison was taken - and okay, she admitted it, scared, and a little afraid. But, after she had received his distress text, she knew she had to pull herself together. So, she used the last of their money to get on a bus and got off at Grimm HQ, where her parents were supposedly being kidnapped.
All that was left to do was sneak inside find them amongst the...... Amberley looked down at the brochure she had snagged on the bus...... 67 stories of the building, plus get through security, and find a valid reason to need to search the building head to toe, because she was 90% sure that "I'm here to rescue the prisoners you're holding captive." Wouldn't go over well.
She was here..... for a school paper article. Yes, that was it. She was young and innocent, and hadn't thought to make an appointment ahead of time. Of course she understood that Evelyn Grimm herself wouldn't be able to talk to her, but could she at least have a look around? It was perfect. Amberley walked with an extra bounce in her step after hearing it in her head. Having a plan made everything seem like it was okay.
Things began to feel less okay, though, as she neared the entrance to the building. She let out a gulp, and, trembling, opened the door.
The lobby was huge, and unlike that of a hotel, or the Empire State Building. It had a large front desk, four elevators - two on each side - and some couches placed near tables and a fountain.
It certainly doesn't look like a place that would be used to hide prisoners, she thought as she looked around. Then again, USHO didn't seem like much a secret organization at first glance, either.
She walked up to the front desk, mentally rehearsing her lines again. Finally, she worked up enough courage to go over and talk to the old woman standing there, who's sharp face reminded her of her old Spanish teacher, Señora Tobio. She has been a strict old which who's mouth was stuck in a permanent frown, and who's neck alone had had more wrinkles than the woman herself had morals. Amberley really, really hoped this old woman was different.
"Excuse me, madam?" Amberley walked up in a timid manner. "I'm here from the um.... Frëńçh Schōøl Newspaper. I was wondering if I could interview Miss Evelyn Grimm for a special segment?"
The woman looked at her with a mix of sympathy and amusement. "I am very sorry, mon Cherie, but Ms. Grimm is a terribly busy woman. I'm afraid she wouldn't be able to squeeze you in today.
"Oh..." Amberley tried her best to look dissapointed. "May I at least have a look around the building then?"
The woman hesitated. "Oh, I'm really not supposed to....." her voice trailed off, and she pursed her thin lips. "Oh, what the heck. You're a kid, what harm could you possibly do? I'll give you an hour, okay? Just don't go into the basement - we're having troubles with the pipes, I wouldn't want to get hurt!"
For Amberley, of course, this translated into First stop: the basement!
Evan had almost lost her job.
After it was discovered that she was the one who gave he twins the information about the security cameras, the whole company was enraged. She had gotten off better than the security guard, though, who had had his memory wiped and was currently living a nice, unknowing life in Idaho as an accountant with a wife named Maureen.
But now, she was determined to redeem herself. And she had.
After Addison had texted Amberley, Evan had been able to confirm what had been brushed off as a rumour. She had also managed to hack into their security cameras. So, when she recognized Amberley getting on the elevator, she immediatelky contacted Johnathan Lin with the news.
And that's why he was just getting off a private jet in Paris, France, determined together the girl and her family out of the mess before they, or anyone else, got in trouble or hurt.
The basement was much less extravagant than the lobby, and Amberley honestly couldn't help but be underwhelmed by it. In fact, she was so dissapointed by the anticlimacticness of it all, she didn't notice the tall figure standing behind her, or even bother to turn on a light in an attempt to look for her parents.
"Looking for something?" A feminine voice sneered from behind her. Amberley turned in alarm to find herself face to face with the witch herself, Evelyn Grimm.
"YOU BITCH!" Amberley shouted the cuss word at the top of her lungs, and punched the woman straight in the jaw. Evelyn stumbled backwards as her hand hovered over her injury.
"Brat!" She shouted. That only angered Amberley more.
"Listen up, you blonde bimbo." She snarled, and advanced towards Grimm. "Give me my family, or I call the cops. Or better yet - USHO." The threat hung in the air between the two of them, and for a second, Amberley thought she had one, but Evelyn composed a threat of her own."Give me the password to the USHO vault and I'll just hand over your parents willingly." She replied smoothly.
Amberley purses her lips and put her hands in her pocket, where her phone was concealed. She speed dialed USHO - Uncle Oak had programmed the number into her phone - and put it on speaker.
"So, just out of curiosity, Miss Evelyn Grimm, why have you decided to hide my family in the basement of Grimm Headquarters, of all places?" Amberley spoke carefully and clearly.
Evelyn shrugged. "They said we didn't have a dungeon."
"And is it true that you kidnapped both of my parents, my brother, and I myself as an attempt to try and get the password to the USHO bank vaults.
"Duh." She rolled her eyes. "I literally just asked you for the password a minute ago, and you still haven't answered me!" Amberley smiled.
"That's because I don't have it." She said with mock sympathy, and extended a pale finger pointing just behind her. "But he probably does.
Uncle Oak slapped a pair of hand cuffs on Evelyn, who looked positively enraged. "Miss Grimm, I'm going to need you to show me the way to the rest of the Axel family, and then you're coming with me."
A day later, the family was reunited. It was just the four of them, eating dinner at all small cafe by the Eiffel Tower.
"We can't thank you enough, guys." Sienna repeated for the thousandth time.
"Especially you, Amberley." Kathryn added, and Amberley looked up in surprise.
"Really?" She asked, and her moms smiled warmly.
"Really." They said in unison. Amberley went over by their side and wrapped her parents in a hug. Addison was not far behind her.
And they sat, just like that, watching the Paris sun set behind the Eiffel Tower, and while that sun represented the end of one adventure, they couldn't wait for the next.
A/N: Wow. I'm actually done with my second book.
I just want to take a minute and thank everyone who read, commented, and voted on my story. It truly means a lot, and I'm so grateful for all of you. Thank you, so, so much for motivating me to finish this, and all of your support.
Also: This book sucks.
Don't get me wrong, I love it, and the first 4, 5 chapters I'm really proud of. But there's lots of plot holes, little characterization, grammar and spelling mistakes everywhere, and it just needs work done. So, what Km going to do is leave it up until school lets out and I've got my next book going, and then I'm going to unpublish it, edit it, and republish it.
I'll also have voting up for my next story on Annoying Things Parents Do this week, so please check that out, too.
Again, thank you guys so much for this wonderful journey and all of the support- Trinity Rebel
