The fact that we had a set date to countdown to made time go by both extremely fast and agonizingly slow. That night, I fell asleep as quick as possible, wanting the next eight hours to pass as soon as possible. I glanced at my phone when I woke up, and quickly did the math in my head.

29 hours 32 minutes and... 0 seconds.

Hito was still asleep and I decided not to wake him up, I've found that he's not a morning person. Instead, I did the usual routine of greeting a few people and grabbing breakfast for the both of us. I exchanged a few words with Elizabeth, who seemed ecstatic that I was going home tomorrow. I smiled brightly as I made my way back up to my room.

I nudged Hito in the back and he rolled over. I placed the freshly cooked toaster strudel under his nose and - just like a dog - he woke up and took it from me. He nibbled on it contently as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. I sat on my bed and ate my share as well, but I had something I wanted to ask.

Finally, about five minutes later, I spoke up. "Hey... how long are you stuck here?"

He looked up to meet my eyes, but he didn't seem bothered by the question. "I was originally here for five days, like you. But they didn't think I was ready, so they extended my stay another five days. After your first extension, they move you up to a month. And even after that, they weren't satisfied, so I'm here for six months as of now."

Holy shit... "how long have you been here so far?"

He shrugged, his pale shoulders exposed since he never bothered to wear a shirt to bed. "My sentence is up in a week and a half, but I doubt I'll be let out." Now I understood why he was so pessimistic those first few days, he's been holed up here for over five and a half months.

"Shit... I'm sorry." I didn't know what else to say. He shrugged, obviously not bothered by it. I was bothered, though, "don't you want to get out of here?"

He gave me an exasperated look, "of course I do. I want to go to school and make friends, do homework and experience the normal life of a teenager."

I understood completely and knew that I shouldn't push the topic any further.

.oOo.

I did everything I could to pass the time. After group sessions were over, I went to making myself as busy as possible, but I found myself becoming antsy. No one could blame me, I was a kid who just wanted to go home. I was sitting down in the open lobby around five o'clock when Emily walked by. She noticed my jittery behavior and decided to sit down in a chair beside me.

"What's up?" Her usual cheerful tone was ever so present. I paid no mind and told her the reason for my excitement. She hummed, "don't you have anything to do?"

I huffed, "I cleaned my room and packed all of my stuff ahead of time. I asked Elizabeth if she had any errands and I completed them for her. I even went as far as to go ask Sam from the infirmary if he needed anything, he didn't if you were curious." I continued to bounce my knees and fidget with my fingernails.

She tsked, "why not go for a walk or something?"

I paused, "I thought we couldn't leave the property?"

She laughed and her smile finally reached her brown eyes, "you've been here for five days and you didn't realize we had a gym?"

I groaned, "no one told me!"

She snickered, "exercise is good for your mental health, so of course we would have one. It's over there," she pointed over to a hallway I had gone down to reach the infirmary. "When you reach the end of the first hallway, open the door on the right, there's a fitness room. Okay?" I nodded and smiled, I could use a little bit of exercise, now that she mentioned it, I almost craved it.
