"Do I even wanna know why there's a message from your mother on my phone?" I ask Josh as I walk into the living room after my shower.
It's been a few weeks and things have calmed down at bit, work is a little less stressful with Matt on some kind of leave and at home we were finally falling into a steady routine with Emma.
Of course Thanksgiving was coming up so things were about to get a little hectic.
"Um I have a feeling it has to do with a holiday that starts with thanks and ends with giving" he smirks like the smart ass he is.
"I hate you sometimes" I laugh as I take a seat beside him. "But seriously Josh. Your mother is not my biggest fan."
"Really? I had no idea" he replies sarcastically. "Do you forget that I'm the one who got you pregnant? She's not exactly my biggest fan either babe."
"I know but it's just frustrating. I feel like she's never gonna like me."
"Well why don't you listen to the message and see what she wants. Maybe it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
"You're cute" I smile as I lean forward to kiss him. "Do we have to celebrate the holidays? Maybe we could just you know fast forward to the fourth and get married."
"As lovely as that sounds that's not how life works babe" he reminds me. "Just listen to the message" he insists as I sigh and bring the phone to my ear.
"Hi Maya. It's Amy. I'm just calling to discuss Thanksgiving plans. I do believe that it's you and Josh's turn to host this year. Call me back when you get you this please. And give Emma a kiss for me" she adds before the voicemail ends.
"So?" Josh asks curiously. "What'd she want?"
"Apparently it's our turn to host this year" I sigh. "Why did we come up with that stupid rotation idea?" I ask in annoyance.
"It seemed like a good plan when it kept the holidays out of our house" Josh laughs. "Maya it'll be fine" he assures me.
"Everyone in our place. It's gonna be a disaster" I disagree. "I'm gonna go call Riley" I sigh.
"Alright. I'm gonna go check on Emma before watching Grey's Anatomy."
"Oh don't start without me" I exclaim. "I don't want to miss all the Meredith and Maggie drama, plus the preview had five seconds of Alex in it. We may get a sighting tonight" I add making him roll his eyes.
"I'm never forgiving them for what they did to Jolex."
"I would never expect you to. It was unforgivable" I agree.
"Why do we still watch that show?" he asks suddenly.
"I don't know" I admit with a laugh. "But don't start it without me."
"I would never" he smiles before he leaves to check on Emma and I dial Riley's number.
"I take it Amy got a hold of you finally" Riley laughs with our phones connect. "She's been trying to figure out how to break the news to you."
"And she chose voicemail?" I ask confused. "Ugh Riles, I don't want to host Thanksgiving" I exclaim as Riley laughs through the phone.
"It's your turn. It's only fair" she replies making me sigh as I run my fingers through my hair.
"So many people and how am I supposed to cook a huge meal like that with Emma running around?"
"She's five not two" Riley points out. "Peaches you are getting way more worked up about this than you need to be. Everything is going to be fine."
"And if it's not?"
"It will be" she assures me. "We'll go grocery shopping tomorrow after school. Sound good?"
"Maybe you can come over and help me cook it too."
"Yea okay we'll see" she replies with a chuckle. "Let's start with the shopping thing."
"Fine. Grocery shopping. Tomorrow."
"It's a date."
"You're going on a date with Riles?" Josh asks as he walks back into the room. "Why am I not even surprised?" he teases as he sits back on the couch beside me.
"Shut it" I laugh as I snuggle up beside him. "You ready to watch Grey's?"
"Yep" he smiles as he kisses the top of my head and flips the channel.

"Ready to go?" I ask Riley as I lean against the doorway of her classroom the next day while she's stuffing all of her things into her bag.
"Just a sec" she replies as she continues to flit around her classroom. "I hope I remembered to tell Lily that we were picking her up today" she adds as she hikes her purse up onto her shoulder.
"Uh oh is the pregnancy brain starting" I ask as we head out of her classroom and towards the car.
"I forgot to pack her lunch yesterday. I handed her an empty lunch box" she sighs as we reach my car and climb in. I start the car and pull out of the parking lot, heading towards the elementary school.
"Yikes. What did the kiddo have for lunch?"
"Your kid" she smiles. "They shared lunch."
"Aren't you glad our kids are best friends?" I ask with a smile.
"It's perfect" she agrees as we pull up to the elementary school. We wait in the parking lot until suddenly the back door is thrown open and Emma and Lily climb in.
"Hi" they exclaim in unison.
"Hey baby girl. Hi Lily" I reply with a smile. "You girls get buckled in?" I ask curiously.
"We're in mommy" Emma assures me.
"Alright then off we go" I smile as we head off to the grocery store. "Alright girls we have to get dinner for Thanksgiving, I need you both to be on your best behavior okay?"
"Okay mommy" Emma replies.
"You got that Lil?" Riley asks curiously as she glances back at her daughter in my backseat.
"Mhm. I'll be good mommy" Lily assures Riley as we pull up to the grocery store. We all climb out and head inside. We grab a cart that two kids can sit on and I start to push it as Riley falls into step beside me.
"Okay we need stuffing, corn, cranberries, a turkey of course" Riley lists.
"Rolls" Emma exclaims.
"Right, anything else?" I ask curiously.
"Green bean casserole" Riley suggests.
"Okay sounds good. You ready to attack this grocery list?"
"Let's do it" I smile as Riley and I start to weave down the endless aisles. The girls help us pick out a few things, climbing off the cart and helping to retrieve things and after an hour we're ready to head home. I pack up the car and we all climb in and head off to Riley's.
"We should grocery shop in groups more often" Riley laughs. "It goes much faster."
"That's true" I agree with a smile.
"Mommy can I have the animal crackers?" Emma asks as she rummages through the bags for the box I bought her.
"Sure baby girl. Share with Lily" I instruct. She finds the box and grabs two handfuls, handing one to Lily and keeping the other for herself. I pull up to Riley's and we say our goodbyes before she climbs out with Lily trailing after her.
"Ready to go home baby girl?" I ask Emma as I glance back at her with a smile.
"Let's go see daddy" she exclaims.
"Alright baby girl. Next stop home" I smile as I put the car in reverse and head off, home to Josh.
