"Maya" Josh shakes me awake. I groan as I shake him off. I loved him dearly but I did not want to wake up yet. "Maya" he repeats, shaking me harder.
"Stop" I groan making him chuckle as he shakes his head at me. He knew after all these years that waking me up was harder than waking up our five year old.
"You have to get to work" he reminds me, kissing the soft spot below my ear. Tingles run through my body as I shake my head in disagreement.
"Sorry babe but no" I breathe out deeply. "I'm busy today." I feel him stiffen beside me and I immediately curse myself for the awful wording I just used. I turn around and lean forward to press my lips to his in a soft, passionate kiss. I pull back slightly and smile. "I'm looking at dresses today" I admit making his eyes light up in delight. After all our fighting lately getting back on track with wedding stuff was exactly what we needed.
"Are you excited?" he asks as he grabs my waist, pulling me closer. I shrug, playing off how genuinely excited I actually was to finally get my dress. I've fantasized so much about marrying Josh, every detail was laid out in my head. I couldn't wait to make my dreams a reality.
"A little" I lie making him chuckle as he stares into my eyes.
"A little?" he questions. "I don't think I believe you one bit" he adds as he ducks down to kiss me. I smile against his lips, wrapping my arms around his neck as he deepens the kiss. The sound of knocking on our door causes us to pull apart reluctantly. "Um" Josh sucks his bottom lip into his mouth. "Could you?" he asks and that's when I realize the situation our kissing and close proximity has caused. I blush as I nod, climbing out of the bed and heading over to the door. I find my daughter on the other side with Lambie in hand.
"Someone is knocking" she says, a yawn falling from her lips as she rubs her eye with her free hand. I furrow my eyebrows and push past my daughter towards the door. I wasn't expecting the girls until much later today. I take a deep breath and move to open the door. Matt is standing on the other side.
"Maya" he exclaims, his eyes brightening.
"What are you doing here?" I demand immediately. Flirting at work was one thing. One thing I put an end to a couple weeks ago. But showing up at my home. Where my daughter lived.
"I was worried about you" he says. I shake my head. This could not be happening.
"No" I insist. "You do not get to show up here."
"You went radio silent and you're avoiding me at work-."
"So you show up at my home?" I exclaim. "Matt this is really out of line" I insist as I suddenly feel a hand on my back while Josh's other hand rests on the open door above mine.
"You need to go" Josh says seriously. "I'm done with you fucking with my family" he says bluntly. Matt doesn't shy away though. He laughs. My eyes widen and I'm very aware of the fact that my five year old is bearing witness to all of this.
"Are you that insecure?" Matt questions. "If she really loved you she wouldn't keep me around and she certainly wouldn't have needed your guiding hand in getting rid of me" he says making my heart drop.
"Do you enjoy preying on young women in need of a little attention?" Josh demands. "You have a five year old, have a career and plan a wedding then get back to me about the struggle you know nothing about but are preying upon."
"You're just upset because you're losing her."
"Enough" I snap, glaring at Matt. "What I did was wrong. I feel nothing for you. I liked the attention and I'll admit that but I promise you that Josh has been paying plenty of attention to every inch of me lately so there's no need for you to worry" I assure him. Matt's eyes widen and Josh chuckles. I gotta admit, I get a rush from telling him that.
