Chapter 12

"Come on Riel, just let us see you!" said Kelsie exasperatedly outside the dressing room.

"No!" I shouted back.

I felt so weird and uncomfortable in the dress that they gave me, it was a ruby red cocktail dress that was too short, just above my thighs which I'm sure will ride up even further when I walk or sit down. I also find the beaded sweetheart neckline too low, which makes my boobs too big.

"Please?" begged Mary. "How will we know if it is not the right dress if you don't show it to us?"

"It just isn't, the dress is too short, the neckline is too low and the whole dress is uncomfortable!" I grumbled.

"Oh come one," said Kelsie. "Just a peek?"

I rolled my eyes and slowly opened the doors, "No laughing ok?"

"Yes!" chorused the two.

I went out of the cubicle with my arms around me, trying to cover as much of my exposed body as possible. "So?" I asked

"No" said Kelsie. "That dress is totally wrong."

"Yeah," said Mary. "You're right. Let's try another one" she then turned to the dress rack next to her looking for another dress.

"Why can't I just buy the simple peach pink one?" I said. "I liked it better than this dress, it's cute and comfortable"

"The one with the lace?" said Kelsie. "It's cute but it's too simple!"

"You need something that screams sexy and sophisticated." said Mary as she pushes around one dress from another.

"But it is sophisticated," I reasoned out. "The lace and high neckline is perfect and the skirt is cute as well."

"It is cute," said Kelsie. "But not sophisticated enough. You are going to a fashion show after party; you can't just wear a simple dress. The others will be wearing some drop dead gorgeous dresses and you need to wear one as well."

"I'm just a plus one in the party" I said, "I don't need to show off and dress like the models there."

"You are not just a plus one!" said Mary who stopped looking at the dresses. "You my dear are an honored guest of David Collins."

I just rolled my eyes and said, "You guys are 'honored guests' too by Sebastian Grayer and Lance Heath, so why am I the only one who is fitting dresses?" with matching air quotes with my fingers.

"Because," said Kelsie who pushes me one more time inside the fitting room while handing me another dress that was pink "We already have our dresses."

"What? When?" I asked as I take off the dress that I was wearing.

"Yesterday!" said Mary. "You were out with your mom so we thought you already have one only to be surprised that you don't."

"I DID have a dress." I said putting on the new dress "But it wasn't enough for you guys."

"Because it is not fashion forward!" said Kelsie. "So come on out and let us see you, is that dress better?"

"No." I said while going out of the cubicle.

"Yeah, it doesn't seem right" said Kelsie.

"How much longer do we have to do this?" I asked sitting down on one of the plush couches. "I'm tired and hungry"

"Until we find you a dress!" said Kelsie

I just groaned, leaned my head and closed my eyes in utter defeat. I never thought shopping could be so tiring! I must have tried on at least half of the dresses in this store and I'm not even counting the previous one where we first looked.
