Chapter 7- Tangled Life
A week has passed since the "Mary and Seb incident" as we call it and Mary was trying to act as hard as she can that nothing happened and it was all under the bridge but I knew her better. I could still see the hurt in her eyes every time Seb was near or in the same room as us which is every day since we all have the same schedule. There are times that she would just excuse herself to go to the comfort room to break down and cry and I would follow her to give her comfort and some encouraging words.
Seb, on the other hand, approached Mary the day after the incident, apologizing. The two talked for quite some time but neither of them told us what happened and we didn't dare to ask since it's their problem to deal with and not ours. It was also hard to have time with him the past few days because of Mary, even though she doesn't say it, it's clear that she doesn't want me to hang out with him for a while as if wanting me to take her side which is hard.
David, Kelsie and Lance has been hounding all the time, asking me what had happened but I told them that it was not my story to tell so Lance and David backed away after that but not Kelsie who still kept on asking. She even asked Seb and Mary, who did not tell her as well, which made her mad for a day but came back apologizing the next, realizing that she was wrong to butt in on others' problems. So Kelsie and I did the best that we could to make Mary feel that we are still here for her. Both of us realized that there is something different about her ever since that fateful day.
"Hi Riel," greeted David when I came in the room of our first class.
"Hi," I said in return, smiling at him. "Are the others here yet?"
"Kelsie and Lance are, they went to the courtyard, I think?" said David. "But Seb and Mary aren't here yet."
"Oh, thanks," I said sitting down on the chair beside him and putting my phone out to see if there are any messages.
"So," said David, trying to keep the conversation going, "Everything is still rocky with the two?"
"Yeah, I don't know what to do," I said looking at him before opening an unread message from Seb. "I'm torn in between them, you know that the two of them are my best friends and it isn't easy to be between them right now."
"I understand," said David.
I then checked the message Seb sent me and it said:
Can we talk later after class? S
I quickly replied yes and sent it without hesitation. It's been a week since we had a decent conversation and I know we have so many things to talk about, now that it's only me who knew what had happened. I placed back my phone on my bag and took out my notebook to write, it has been ages since I have last written the last chapter of my story.
"Riel?" said David quietly.
"Yeah?" I said, stopping what I was doing and looked at his clear silver eyes.
"You want to hang out later after class?" he asked.
"Oh," I said. "I'm sorry I already have plans to hang out with Seb later."
"It’s ok," he said smiling at me. "No pressures, whatsoever, but have you thought about what I told you last week?"
I felt my cheeks grow warm and I looked away, too shy to look at him in the eyes, I said, "Oh. Uhm, I haven't yet, there are just so many things that had happened and I had no chance to think about it."
"It's ok," said David, his voice warm with understanding. "I understand no worries about it."
Before I could think of something to say, Mary along with Kelsie and Lance came in the room and greeted us. I greeted them back and gave them all a hug as it is my usual greeting to them.
