Calla:
"Sam's having his eighteenth next week, you guys want to come?"
I looked up from my rather unsatisfying cucumber and left over fish sandwich and at Mitchie across the lunch table. The sound of multiple teenage conversations buzzed around us in the cafeteria.
"Yeah sure, when is it?" Phoebe responded before I had the chance to swallow my mouthful.
"Next weekend. Saturday night I think, can you come Calla?" Mitchie looked at me hopefully.
"I should be able to –" I started before Mitchie interrupted me.
"Great!" Mitchie beamed.
I smiled back, she was so cute when she got excited. Like a little kid on a sugar high. I raised my eyes to the door behind her as a group of people entered the cafeteria. After a moment Tyson's eye's sought out mine and I held my smile for one in return from him. I almost melted into my seat. I almost thought this crush was becoming unhealthy, but then he tapped his finger on his watchless wrist and motioned out the door, and I realised I had almost forgotten about meeting him in the library to finish off our music assignment.
"You know, you've been spending a lot of time with Tyson lately. Anything we should know?" Mitchie caught me smiling in his direction and wiggled her eyebrows at me suggestively.
I scoffed, "No! And I haven't been spending time with him."
"Yeah you have," Phoebe started, "In study period you're all over each other, these past few weeks."
"We are not!" I denied a little too loudly.
"Okay well you've been sitting next to each other – "
I interrupted Mitchie quickly, "We have a music assignment to do together!"
"Are you sure that's all you have to do together," Phoebe cooed. By now both of them were trying to contain their laughter as my face turned redder by the minute.
I stood up quickly feigning anger. "You guys are so annoying!"
The dam was broken they were laughing so loudly the tables next to us shot us looks. I looked up and noticed Tyson moving towards us through the people so I quickly started packing up my books.
"Aw come on Calla it was all fun!" Mitchie said in gasps as she watched me pack up my lunch.
"You coming?" I heard his voice and so did the others. His presence, standing beside the table, spurred them into more laughter.
I glared at Mitchie while I shoved the rest of my books into my bag. "Yep, let's go." The others were still giggling and I said firmly looking at Mitchie and Phoebe, "To the library."
As we walked away from the table I could here their laughter all the way down the hall.
"What was that about?" Tyson asked as we entered the library.
I just frowned and shook my head as we took a seat at one of the large tables, "My friends are idiots."
Tyson just smiled. "You gotta love them anyway."
"Yep." I admitted, "So what are we doing today?" I asked pulling out my books and work. We had the last fifteen minutes of lunch and the next hour of study period to finish this assignment.
"You are writing your rational, and I'll finish off the music."
"Okay," I said brightly. "When did you do your rational?"
Tyson didn't look up from the sheet music, "Last night."
I sighed at how easy it would have been for him. I started this assignment thinking I would have to do all the work. In truth he's done mostly the entire project. I looked back at my blank page. I knew what I wanted to say, but I couldn't translate it with out help. I wish my tutor Roger was here. I felt Tyson's gaze on me but I tried to ignore him, leaning over the page and propping my pencil as if I was about to seamlessly write five hundred words without stopping for air.
