This is my story: My name is Dove Evans I was born with a radiation deformation, my left arm from the elbow down is gone. So I was then sent here to island D, D as in deformity. The reason why we have radiation is that 10 years ago the largest power plant in the world had exploded and the wind carried it north. Any kids born after that with a deformity was sent here. To keep any mishaps or anything irregular away.

This city is very organized, everyone does what they are supposed to. Keeping it going and without any burden.

Different parts of the city are for different deformities, for example: I live on the north side of the town which is for missing arms. South side is missing legs, west are for mental disorders, that are unrelated to radiation but related to the realization that your not leaving and east is for the babies that are shipped here.

The south handles depression, down syndrome, and much more but I cannot name them off the top of my head.

My job in this city is to pick berries, I know boring, but I help out. I live in a little apartment. (Thankfully when the first of us were sent here the government was nice enough to have left a months supply of food and 3 large apartment type buildings).

We quickly filled those up with our many people. So I share an apartment with my best friend (almost sister) Georgina Settles.

Our 'apartment' consists of 1 full mattress left behind when everyone evacuated. A bathroom with a toilet (which works only at the hours of 7am-7pm from restrictions from the government.

Each apartment has almost 98% of the same things we have minus our own collectibles and anything we have of our own.

---

As I carry my basket of raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries to the town's cafeteria in my right hand, I skip a little dropping a small trail of berries behind me.

I finally make it through the crowd of people rushing from their jobs and walk into the cafeteria. Houston, our chef who has depression, and give him the basket.

"A little less than yesterday dove, are you eating them?" He asks raising an eyebrow.

"Must've dropped a few along the way." I shrug and smile.

"Here." He half smiles back giving a couple handfuls of berries for tonight if I'm hungry.

"Thanks Houston. We both know I'll eat them." I say popping a raspberry in my mouth.

"'Bye Dove make sure your a couple minutes early to tonights dinner so you can get a good meal." He says waving as I walk out the door.

I walk down to the east side, where I help part time because they are loosing helpers to other jobs.

I run up to Georgina while she is moving crates of eggs from truck to truck. I scare her from behind and she jumps almost dropping 2 entire dozens of eggs.

"Holy Fuck!" Georgie screams and laughing as soon as she sees me. "I swear to god Dove you scare me again I'll crack an egg right over your face."

"You wouldn't." I tease.

"You bet your ass I would." She swears and I wave bye going back to my original goal.

I continue walking as I snack on the berries in my pocket which are from Houston.

I make it to the east side in 10 minutes, only about 5 minutes late. Rebecca Ace greets me at the door holding a child at her hip. She is missing her right hand.

"I'm sorry I'm late. I got a bit held up." I say walking inside to see the kids.

The other helpers (which work full time) are bustling around from child to child. Most them missing a limb or having disorders.

I walk over to my favorite child, Tessa, and give her a big side hug. She whips around and her face lights up.

"Dovey!" She squeals wobbling over to me.

"Hi Tessa!" I squeal back. "What do you want to do today?" I ask.

"Can we pleeeeeaaassseee go to the animal pens?" She pleads.

"Only if Becca says yes, and we have to bring other kids." I say.

"Ok! Ok!" She squeals hobbling over to Rebecca and Becca gives me a half worried half relieved look.

"She said yes!" Tessa yells and all the kids look at her.

"Ok, who wants to go to the animal pens?" I ask and all the kids yell yes.

"Ok everyone come with me." I say and the 2-5 year olds get up and follow me and another helper outside.

We start making our way to the animal pens. This is probably the highlight if my day, all these kids getting to see something other than the center.

---

I have a small chat with Wilson making sure he doesn't mind if the kids pet the animals and he said no petting them if they're feeding.

The kids run around the animal pens and pet almost every animal not missing any. They enjoy the petting for about 30 minutes until they get tired and we walk back to the center.

Everyone passes out and we all tuck them in. After everyone is sleeping peacefully I bid my good byes to Rebecca and the other helpers. Its about 4:50 so I head back to the cafeteria well, I wont be early but I should be just on time.

I decide to take the scenic route through the small but dense Forrest along the side of the road. Its eerily quiet, but I ignore it, I keep walking until I stop dead. There is heavy breathing and something whooshes in front of me. I gasp afraid that it might be an animal or something.

"Hello? Are you Ok?"

The thing pounces on me knocking the wind out of me. Its hands scratching my chest and legs. I grasp for a branch of something to hit it with but I can't. The thing is. Trying. To. Kill. Me. Is all I can think at the moment., I wrestle my out of its reach and find the nearest stick and knock it out.
