12. Not the time

One month later

Wyatt: 6 weeks old

Alex' pov

Our little boy has been doing great. Doctor Hale said he can go home in a few weeks. Maggie and I have not left his side since his birth. We exchange places so one can get some sleep while the other one stays with Wyatt. Mom and Robert have also seen him, they were both crying with happiness. Kara helps us too, by decorating the nursery. She's been a great aunt to Wyatt. Maggie and I were walking back to the hospital after Kara watched over Wyatt for ten minutes. She requested to have some time with her nephew.

"Are you okay, baby?" I asked.

"Yes, everything's fine. I'm just a little tired." Maggie replied.

"Me too, I didn't know being a mother would be this hard." I said. "I don't know how Mom could do this. She had me and a superhero as daughters. And I didn't make it very easy for her when I was a kid."

"But it's worth it. Wyatt is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

"I agree, he's our precious little gift. I hope Kara's doing fine with him."

"Well, we'll see in a few minutes."

Maggie and I went up to the NICU and saw Kara talking to Wyatt.

"I love you. Yes, I love you so much!" Kara said in a baby-voice. "You are so sweet."

"And does Wyatt love you back?" I joked.

"Look who's there, your mommies." she replied. "He's so cute."

"That's our buddy." Maggie replied. "Our little warrior. He got that cuteness from Alex."

"And when can you take this little guy home?" Kara asked.

"In a few weeks. I can't wait to have Wyatt with us, and not in this hospital." I said. "They are taking great care of him, but I'd rather want him with Maggie and I."

"That's understandable." Kara said.

"We have been talking about us all this time. How are you and Winn doing?" Maggie curiously asked.

"We're doing good. It's maybe a bad time to say this, but I can't hide this any longer. He proposed last night. We're engaged!" Kara expressed.

"Congratulations, Kara!" Maggie said.

"We can add a new member to the family! Congrats, little sis." and I gave her a hug. "And where is my future brother- in- law?"

"Winn's at the DEO with James and Mon-El. You and Maggie are quite busy at the moment, so Winn and James took your places until Wyatt's better. Is that okay?"

"Of course, but I hope they don't mess it up." Maggie joked.

"No, Winn and James are a good team. Just like you two." Kara complimented.

"Agh..." Wyatt let out a little baby noise.

"And you are also a part of the team." Kara smiled.

And a few seconds later, all the machines around Wyatt started beeping.

"What's happening?" I anxiously asked.

"I don't know." Maggie looked scared.

"There's something wrong! Get Doctor Hale!" I almost screamed.

Doctor Hale quickly came in with some nurses.

"He's in V- tach! I have to start CPR. Get the family out of here!" she yelled.

"He was fine!" Maggie sobbed.

A nurse took my arm and dragged me out of the NICU. Maggie was crying. I quickly took her into my arms and held her, while Kara was trying to call our parents.

"How did this happen? He was doing okay!" Maggie cried.

"I don't know, baby. He's going to be okay, he's a fighter." I said, while trying to hold back my tears.

I looked over and saw Doctor Hale still performing CPR on our little boy. I couldn't cry, one of us had to be strong.

And then, I heard it.

"Time of death: 3.31 pm."
