20. Epilogue

5 years later

Alex' pov

Maggie and I were sleeping on the couch when we heard a crying noise coming out of the baby monitor.

"Looks like our princess is awake again." Maggie said. "It's fine, I'll go."

"Okay, thank you." I replied.

Maggie went upstairs and a few minutes later, she came back with our three- month old little girl in her arms.

"I think she wants a little attention from her mommies." Maggie whispered, while rocking Lily back and forth.

"She's got our attention now." I said.

"Mommy?" our other princess asked from upstairs. "Mommy?"

"And I think Esme is awake too." Maggie replied.

I put on my slippers and went upstairs. I opened the door and saw our little four-year old crying.

"Why are you crying, sweetie?" I asked.

"I had a nightmare. A monster wanted to scare me." Esme sobbed.

"Oh, honey... It's okay. Come here." and I pulled her into my arms.

"Let me tell you something. Do you know your full name is Esme Kara Sawyer?" I started to say.

"That is aunt Kara's name." she replied.

"And you know that aunt Kara is a hero. We named you after her because we knew you were going to be a hero, too. Just in your own special way. So the next time you have a nightmare, you are going to defeat that monster. Because you are our Supergirl." I said.

"Thank you, Mommy."

"No problem, honey. Are you going to be okay?"

"Can I be with you? I'm still a little scared."

"Of course, sweetie." And I carried her down the stairs.

Maggie was sitting on the couch with Lily, she was peacefully sleeping in my wife's arms. I took a seat next to her and Esme put her head on my lap. I slowly stroked her hair.

"Mommy, can you sing for me?" Esme asked.

"Of course, let's see." and I thought for a little while.

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my baby you'll be.

And Esme slowly started falling asleep again.

"Are you okay?" Maggie asked.

"Yes, I'm fine. Just a little tired." I replied.

"I know how you feel. But I've got a beautiful wife and the most amazing children here with me, so it's all worth it."

"You're right. You, Esme and Lily are the only people I need in this world. You make me the happiest girl in the world."

"Are you getting soft on me, Danvers?" Maggie joked.

"Hell, I am." I replied.

And I planted my lips on Maggie's.

"I love you, Maggie Sawyer."

"I love you, Alex Danvers."

Alex and Maggie finally got what they always wanted. They had found a love that was worth fighting for, a family.

They were Happily In Love.
