Chapter 10

Jessica's POV:

I stand in the living room, picking up the garbage my father left for me to pick up. I get to go over to Cody's house to eat dinner and then sleepover. I really hope my dad won't do anything stupid and hurt him or his 'friends'.
"You're supposed to me done! You're such a slacker. You don't do ANYTHING around this house," my dad is complaint at me, "you need to learn to do what you're told to do when you're told!" He storms toward me and slaps my cheek so hard I fall. Once I'm on the ground, he kicks me hard.
"Get up and finish cleaning you pig!" He yells. I throw the last few bottles away and then run up to my room and onto Cody's balcony, into his room. I don't see him so I sit on his bed and text him.

Cody's POV:

I'm sitting at the kitchen table eating a energy bar when my phone buzzes. I look at the screen and see Jessica's name. I don't even unlock the screen to read the whole message because on the preview, it said 'come upstairs. I am...' and that's enough for me to know something's wrong.
I throw away my trash then hurry upstairs to get Jessica. When I get to my room, she's on my bed with her knees to her chest crying. "Awh Angel," I say walking to her hugging her. She hugs me back and starts to cry I my shoulder, "What happened?" In between sobs she looks up at me and explains how her dad yelled at her for not cleaning fast enough. I look in her eyes and I can tell she's hiding something from me. "Is that all he did?" I ask her, trying to get her to tell me. "Yeah. I just don't want to go back there. Ever." She crus harder and I just stroke her hair. I lean back on my bed and she finally falls asleep on my chest. It's not to long before I do too.
