Necessary evil

Chapter 13

My eyes flutter open as I look at the clock.
Great.
I'm late
Again.

I get changed and pause to look outside.
Specifically at the balcony, at a certain persons room. I see a dark shadow facing my direction, unmoving and for a moment, we just looked at each other.
"Melissa" My mum shouts, breaking whatever spell was on me.

I groan and run downstairs for breakfast and then practically sprint for the bus as I hear it familiar clanging engine.

I make it to school in time and sort out my locker, it was in serious need of cleaning.
I shut it to again have another cardia arrest but at least this time I didn't jump.
"F*ck Jesus."

Jayden smirks.
"I bet you wanna" he says with a wink.

I laugh and shove him

"Hey hey hey! Watch it Mel!" He sticks his tongue out

I wiggle my eyebrows
"Oh, so we have nicknames for each other now?"

He slings an arm around my shoulder and draws me in, his body heat floods me and his spicy scent seductive.
"Of course we do Mel. Now make me a cute nickname" He whispers, making my spine tingle.

"How about JayJay" I laugh pinching his cheeks.

He scowls and smacks my bum playfully.
"No!  I was thinking like The beast or Hercules or Prince Charming or-"

"Nah! I think Jay Jay is adorable, like you." I pat his cheeks.

"Adorable is not the word to describe me. Use words like rugged, sexy, charming, gorgeous or scrumptious" he says wiggling his eyebrows with a smirk.

I roll my eyes and shove his arm off of my shoulder, only for him to put it around me again and pull me closer so I can feel the sides of his body against mine.

I look down the corridor to see Alec watching me, as if he were a predator and I was his prey. He was keeping his eye on me, I know it.

I shake off that thought and smack Jayden's bum.

He jumps and laughs.
"Come on Mel, I'm pretty sure we have Math together"

I stop walking and smack the back of his head
"It's Maths idiot, with an s"

He pulls a face.
"Whatever you say, Mel. Now let's go to MATH" he emphasised.

That idiot.

We head to mathS and sit next to each other, only to have him immediately start throwing paper aeroplanes and paper balls at my head.
I turn to my right and kick his chair slightly, now this wouldn't be an issue for him but he was swinging backwards so he fell to the floor and I choke back my laughter.

Mrs Whitewood pauses in the middle of her speech about SOHCAHTOA and looks at Jayden sprawled on the floor.

I cover my mouth as I feel a fit of laughter bubble in my throat.
It's not the only thing I felt.
The whole of that lesson, I also felt Alec watching my every move, like I was a criminal he was guarding.

Jayden scowls up at me as Mrs Whitewood starts tutting
"Jayden! What the hell are you doing on the floor, boy?!"

I can't help letting lose a giggle.

Jayden's eyes twinkle mischievously, letting me know he was going to get me back for that one.
"I was inspecting this stain, Miss!"

Mrs Whitewood shakes her head.
"Sit back down! At once!"

Jayden sits down slowly, rubbing his bottom.

I chuckle at him, earning me a glower

"Just you wait Missy Mel, you better sleep with one eye open" He narrows his eyes in fake anger.

"I already do Jay Jay" I coo sarcastically, smiling at him.

This time, instead of a smirk, he smiles a genuine smile, crinkling the corner of his eyes and the chocolate in his eyes soften and melt.
