Carl brown ,the head of the all the engineering teams in the IASRA ( International Aeronautics and Space Research Administration ) was standing in front of a big screen showing what seemingly looked like planet Earth. Rather a version of planet Earth that wasn't living through its best days .
-"What are the options now ? Said a clearly worried voice behind him .
It was the president of the United states , staring at him with the same anxious eyes every other president present in the room had.
-" The inevitability of this requires drastic changes in the way our race will live in the next decades at the very least ... This event is imminent and as far as I know , we do not have the technology to counter it ... I personally don't know what to do for now , Answered Mr. Carl Brown , giving what was the sad conclusion that had been drawn from the meeting .
-"Most importantly , annoucing this to 7 billion people poses an even greater problem doesn't it? The consequence of such a momentous revelation would be huge panic waves that would be more than burdensome to deal with . Interrupted Charold Brendon , the president of Canada. I don't think such a cataclysm can easily be overlooked at .
So many questions has popped up in Carl Brown's mind and many answers were seeked yet none of them have ended up to be satisfying , which wasn't the best situation he could find himself in at this very tough moment . If it's really inevitable for the planet to stop rotating and moving through the solar system like it always did for the past 4.5 billion years , then there would be only one solution left to the human race to survive : conolizing another planet . A solution , indeed , that would requires a lot of effort let alone the incredibly high amount of energy needed to concretize such a high scale migration . Another big problem would then be the « where » . Where would a race that escaped its one and only home planet transition to ? A planet like March wouldn't be enough , as it lacks many resources earth has .
-" Doctor James , can you remind us again of the eventual consequences of this ? Asked the chief looking at the middle-aged scientist , sitting in the presentation podium facing him , for what seemed to be the 5th time .
-" When we tried to translate RD-918* that KEPLOR-14B* received from 1830 light-year far from us , we could distinguish a morse code . A message that was warning who they called « the last life on earth » that there would be a sudden drop in intensity of the attraction force of Venus . The message itself is one of the most , no , it is the most obvious sign of an extra-terrestrial intelligence. Even though it's unlikely because of the use of morse code .
The IASRA was struggling to comprehend what the message was trying to tell us but we eventually managed to find its exact frequency .Back to the drop I mentionned, it will cause a complete shutdown of the solar system and all the planets in the Milky Way will face a stop of their mechanical
activity including our planet Earth , which will shortly loose all its magnetic filed at one point thus would stop rotating . I , however , strongly believe in the authenticity of this event . As shown in this screen the numbers never lie and this attraction failure will inevitably happens excatly in , 20 years , 22 hours , 2 mins , 13 seconds ,Said the doctor in what seemed to be the general confusion .
This was the second time he presented the result of his discoveries , as he did one time
before the presidents were convoked to
this reunion . But Carl Brown couldn't possibly believe this . He could hear this presentation as many times as he wanted , it was just inimaginable to even think of a complete loss of Earth's rotation .
However , no matter in how many ways to see this , the truth had to be admitted ...
- Does anyone have a solution to this ? Asked Richard Hikes the president of IASRA.
Yet everyone went dead-silent ,which then filled the room with the fear of inhabited the souls of everyone in it.
-The radio signal may be just a coincidence , or just...(he stopped for a moment ) ...a kind of "misunderstanding" . Suggested the president of IASRA in a desperate attempt to convince himself and the others .
-What was said in the radio signal is undeniable , said Carl Brown while pointing at the screen . It actually is the result
of hundreds hours of work , I then highly
doubt the possiblity of a prank . Furthermore , I don't think anyone could be impulsive enough to risk the lives of 7 billion people just for a joke's sake .
In fact , the big screen he was pointing at ,was showing the earth split into three parts with different colors . The right side of the earth was colored in red , on the other side, another colored in white . And a part in the middle was colored in green.
-" If the researches are correct , then only the green part will be bearable to live in , but not for 7 billion people ... that 's why we are in the urge to find a solution to this . Continued Mr.Brown .
A disturbing silence reigned in the meeting room. The weigh of the problem was starting to be felt among the 150 presidents present .
The silence lasted for some never-ending minutes until the sound of a book hitting the floor interrupted it , nailing everyone's attention .
It was Richard Hikes , sweating , and judging from his eyes , his worried look and his trembling hand , the paper he was holding was dealing with a very important matter.
