Vixen opened the front door and walked in. She scanned the dark room with narrowed eyes.
"Shale. I know your there." she whispered. Shale walked out from the shadows, with a large smirk on his face.
"You said you'd walk home when you wanted. I didn't think you meant after midnight." He chuckled. Vixen crossed her arms.
"I can be home anytime I want." She stated. Shale smiled and turned around. He walked upstairs with Vixen following. She walked into her room and instantly shivered. Rubbing her arms to keep warm.
"Damn." She whispered and walked back down one story. She opened the door to Shale's room and sighed. It was much warmer in here. Shale eyes her and waved his hand.
"Yes. What do you want?" He asked. Vixen sighed, secretly promising herself to beat herself up after this.
"My room is colder than hell. Can I stay here the night?" She asked. Her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. Shale smiled and nodded.
"Sure. You can have the bed." He said. Vixen gave half a smile and thanked him. She walked over and laid down in the bed. The blankets were thick and warm. Making her feel like she was in a cocoon of warmth. She watched Shale settle on the ground. She turned to face her and smiled.
"I'll fix your heater tomarrow. If not you can stay in here again." He smirked. Vixen rolled over and laughed.
"God. Are you trying to flirt?" She chuckled. Shale laughed.
"Maybe." Vixen rolled her eyes and then closed them.
"Shut up and let me sleep." And with that Vixen drifted away.

The morning came quick. Vixen jumped awake, confused as to where she was.
"Right." She mumbled and crawled back under the covers. The warmth of the blankets was abruptly cut off. Vixen looked up into the smiling face of Shale. The blankets dangling at his side.
"Rise and shine. Your late." Vixen sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"Your an ass. If I'm late your late." She said. Her eyes flicked over to the clock, 8:12. Instantly she was awake. Jumping up and running downstairs. She passed Shale's mom who waved her good bye.
"Shale. Get down here. Your driving me." She yelled slipping on her shoes. Shale looked down at her from the top of the steps. A smirk on his face. Vixen narrowed her eyes at him. What was so funny?
"Of course. I'll drive you. Don't be alarmed if the doors don't open." He said walking up to her. Reaching behind her, he pulled the door open. As soon as they got outside Vixen whipped her head around.
"What the hell?" She said. Shale raised one eyebrow and laughed.
"School can wait. Follow me. I wanted to show you something." He said grabbing her hand. He pulled her away into the feilds. Vixen sighed and followed. Deciding she was going to take the time they were alone to ask questions. Shale paused and looked back. He smiled and walked up a short hill. Once at the top Vixen's jaw droped. The other side cut into a steep, deep slop. A river ran through the valley. Trees dotted the landscape. It was beautiful. Vixen glanced over at Shale, who was sitting on the ground. She joined him and looked at the landscape.
"Can I ask you something?" Vixen asked. Shale grunted a yes. Vixen took a deep breath.
"Were you in love with Mors?" Shale stiffened. The air around them got tense.
"How did you know?" He asked. Vixen bit her lip.
"When I was captured they said something about it." A lie. Shale let out a breath. He nodded and closed his eyes.
"I was in love with her. I followed her little rebellion until she stepped to far." He ended. Vixen nodded, showing she was listening.
"What did she do?" Though she knew the answer, Vixen still asked. Shale looked at her. Sadness in his eyes.
"She tried to kill my parents." He breathed. Vixen watched him drop his head. A small frown appeared on her face. She reached over and laid a hand on Shale's shoulder.
"I'm sorry. You don't have to continue." Because I already know, she thought. Though inside she was sorry for him. After hearing what most vampires do when there turned, she had some respect for Shale. Instead of turning his parents, he forced himself to stay away from them. Vixen smiled at Shale.
"No. I'll continue." He said, smiling back at Vixen.
"After I found out I went back to the Regina. I told them of where Mors and her followers were hiding. They raided her place and caught most of her followers. Mors herself was gone. After that I stayed with the Regina. Never going back to her little rebellion." Vixen kept her eyes focused on Shale. She laughed inside. How the simplest things could destroy something so precious.
"You still like her, don't you?" Shale whipped his head around. Glaring at Vixen.
"I do not. I never will again." He growled. Vixen laughed. He could say what he wanted but she heard the bit of regret in his voice. Looking back over the land, she took a deep breath.
"Vixen?" Vixen looked over at Shale. His eyes meeting hers.
"Yes? Whats wrong?" She asked. Shale took a deep breath and leaned close. He brushed her lips with his, in a shy kiss. Vixen's eyes widened and she stiffened. Shale quickly pulled away, looking really embarrassed. Vixen stared at the valley, in awkward silence. Finally she burst up laughing. Shale jumped, confused and a little scared. Vixen turned to him smiling.
"You know. If you liked me you should have just said so." Shale's face turned bright red. He ducked his head a muttered something.
"Ya, well. Sorry." He whispered. Vixen smiled and giggled a little.
"Don't apologize. It was nice." Shale cast her a look before shaking his head and smiling.

Later that night, Vixen ended up sleeping in Shale's room again. Shale laid face up on the floor. Vixen stared at him and smiled. He looked back and narrowed his eyes.
"If you want you can sleep up here with me." She said. Shale smiled and stood up. Lifting up the covers and laying down next to her. Vixen smiled and closed her eyes. For the first time scenic she could remember, she was happy.
