Tobias' POV
"So. What's the plan Four? You do have a plan, right?"
Two weeks. Two weeks of, "What's the plan," and, "You're the Dauntless instructor, as far as we're concerned, I'm still an initiate," and Peter and Peter and Peter's non-stop talking about how dark it is, how cold it is, how he shouldn't even be here. About, "If it weren't for Tris, always getting her way, I wouldn't be here".
I wonder if it is illegal for a prisoner to murder another prisoner. I wonder if they would care if one of us never woke up again.
I wonder if I will ever see Tris again.
I shouldn't care, I tell myself. I shouldn't care because she doesn't.
But I do care. I care, and I miss her, and I am dying to see her. And Peter knows it too.
I think he has been trying to distract me with plan-making. I also think he is trying too hard.
"Peter, seriously. Can you just shut up," I growl in the fiercest tone I can muster. Which is not very fierce at all considering I have not had any water in two days and my voice is hoarse.
"Well I'm sorry, I want to get out of here!" He shouts the last part as if it would change my attitude towards him.
It doesn't.
"Fine. Get out of here, go. Good riddance," I retort.
"If I could get out don't you think I would be gone by now?" He states, his tone noticeably loosing it's fire.
"I told you to go, I never said you would be smart about it," I provoke him, only because if he stops talking, then I will be truly alone. And as much as I hate him, I am grateful for any company, even his.
"Listen," he says, "if you think you're being smart, or funny, or getting one up on me, you are wrong. Face it. We're both prisoners and we both need a way out before we die. I need a new cover, and you need your girlfriend back."
"What's your point?" I press.
"My point is," he says, obviously loosing patience, "we both need to get out and we both need something once we do. See where I'm going with this?"
And I do see. I see that he is a perfect lunatic.
"All right then genius," I say, not bothering to hide the mockery in my voice, "what did you have in mind?"
