After Stella dropped me off at the main office, I followed a girl to the pet center. Her long blond hair with black highlights was done up in pigtails. She had ivory colored skin and wore a black dress. (a little too formal in my opinion. She didn’t look older than thirteen. As we walked we made small talk and discussed nothing in general.

“Here we are.” The girl said smiling. I believe her name was Mary.

“Thanks Mary.” I said now looking at the old wooden door in front of me. I gave another small smile at the girl, but her smile had faded.

“It’s Perri.” I gave her an apologetic look and she shrugged her shoulders. I opened the door and was truly disappointed. This was probably the least cared for place in the entire school. The desks looked a hundred years old the chalk board looked like it had never been washed, and the floor was a pigsty. I just stood there taking it all in. To my surprise 98% of the class were either Goth or liked the color black more than the average person. Everyone, including the teacher (which in my opinion wasn’t doing a great job at teaching), was wearing some sort of collar.

My eyes widened as I saw group of sickly pale kids. “What happened to them?” she figured out who I was talking about immediately.

“Those are the kids who often try to revolt.” (Oh My peeps!) “Today’s punishment, having almost all the blood sucked out of them.” I cringed at the thought of having my blood sucked by a bat. And that’s when I noticed it. Every single person in the room had some sort of bite mark. I subconsciously raised my hand to my neck. My skin felt smooth and I felt somewhat relieved.

Taking Stella’s advice I decided not to get involved with that crowd. I still didn’t want to be here though. “So are we going to learn anything?” I asked looking at the teacher half asleep on his desk. “No, we usually sit around and text or whatever.” Mary’s friend answered. “Oh I used to own a phone once, but then I snapped it in half.” All the kids sitting at my table looked up and gave me a bizarre look. There was more to the story of course but I didn’t know them well enough to tell. After about two minutes of silence I got really bored and stood up to leave.

“Where are you going?” Mary questioned.

“To pee.” I lied.

“We have a bathroom here.” She nodded in the direction of the toilet. You didn’t have to be a genius to figure out that those bathrooms were going to be a complete wreck. I gave her a sympathetic look and she sighed. “But I guess since your new, you can pretend that you didn’t know.” I smiled and headed toward the door.

“Thanks Mary!”

“It’s Perri!” She shouted and I grinned. The halls were empty and it almost seemed tranquil for a high school. I began to peek in some of the classrooms and I stopped at a particular one when I noticed a familiar face. Two to be exact. Trevor, who was wearing tight grey tee and a sport jacket I had never seen before. The other was Damon wearing a white tee and his trade mark leather jacket. I decided it would be fun if I said hello.

“Nice of you to show up Mr. Bain.” The teacher said without even looking at who came through the door.

“Mr. Who?” I said smiling. Secretly recalling it was the last names of Tyson and Damon. The teacher looked up, as did the rest of the class and stared. Some had looks of disgust while others had looks of curiosity, but the look on both Damon and Trevor almost made me want to burst out laughing. I turned to the teacher and he looked like he was going to slit my throat.

“How did you get in here?” he said furiously. I gave him a confused look.

“Um… through the front door.” I said pointing back to it with my thumb.
