The weather had started to get cooler over the past four weeks in preparation for Winter. It was Late October now and I walked into school. Riley was sitting on the steps and Estelle was sitting right next to him and leaning on his shoulder. She smiled at him and they started laughing. I walked past them with disregard trying to not show any type of emotion. Happy or sad. They didn't call after me. I walked to my locker and noticed a flyer on the wall across from me. It was a flyer for the Junior party. They had one every year for Halloween for every grade level. Me and Riley had gone every year since fourth grade when we met, so I thought I would just ask him about that to break the ackward ice. I waited by my locker for him to walk past.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Five minutes.
Ten minutes. He should have come by, by now. I turned around to grab something from my locker when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and it was Riley. He was alone for once.
"I got some good news!!!" He said smiling.
"I need to ask you something!" I said excitedly hoping his good news was that the junior party was coming up and we were going to go like we always had. "You first" I said.
"So.... ESTELLE AND I ARE GOING TO THE JUNIOR PARTY!!!" Riley said and I hoped my face hadn't turned red with anger. "What's your question now?" He said not even phased but how much he had just hurt me.
"Oh.... It's Uhm.... Never mind.." I said and I closed my locker door and walked away from him. He had hurt me.... Badly.
I walked to class having my day start off horribly. I flopped into my seat and lay my head down. I felt a flurry of emotions. And all of them made me feel sick. And even though I lived Estelle and she had always been my friend, I couldn't help but not like her for stealing Riley from me completely. I lay there the whole class.
The bell rang and I grabbed my stuff. I walked out the door and Oliver got in my way.
"Something wrong?" He said in his caring way. He really was a sweet person and for that, I couldn't help but like him a little. And it helped that he was pretty cute.
"Oh I'm fine I guess...." I said and tried not to cry so my lie might actually sound real.
"You don't look fine..." He said and he grabbed my wrist and walked me to a quieter area of the hall.
"Riley is dissing me for Estelle.." I said and I actually did start crying. I leaned against Oliver's chest and broke down. He held me tight and made me feel not alone even though Riley had made me feel so alone.
"You don't need him Tor.... He's not worth it.... I mean, you guys have been friends forever and he just ditches you? Douche....." He said and I loved him that much more just for agreeing with me and protecting my opinion.
I sighed and he grabbed my hand. "Your perfect Tori, don't let anyone tell you or make you think differently" he said and I looked into his eyes. They were a deep brown and but his black hair made them look warm and soft. Then I kissed him. His lips were warm against mine which were cold from crying. I pulled away first and he looked at me his cheeks all rosy and I have to admit it was adorable. I blushed too and then we just stood up and walked to class together like nothing had ever happened. But at that moment, Oliver had made me forget about Riley and Estelle.
Maybe Oliver was my escape from all of this. Because Oliver could make me forget about it. Nothing I or anyone else had ever been able to do before.
