Rise Up

Brynlee's Point of View

We arrived at my house and unloaded the groceries. I was grateful that I had decided to put all my stuff where it belonged and cleaned up a little before Shawn had gotten here. Once everything was put away, I offered to cook dinner and he said he would stay for dinner. So I filled a pot with water and brought it to a boil while I grabbed some noodles, Prego Sauce, and meatballs. He just stood and watched me as I prepared our dinner which surprisingly wasn't weird for me. He was silent the whole time which kind of worried me but if something was wrong, I want going to pry for answers.

I grabbed two bowls and placed some spaghetti and a few meatballs in them. I reached over and grabbed a dish towel so I could pull the garlic bread out of the oven and placed it all on the table. I got myself some water with lemon and Shawn had said he would have a Coke. We both sat down and started eating in silence. I was patiently waiting for Shawn to say something but he just kept eating. After about 10 minutes he finally said something.

"I'm sorry I haven't been talking, Ive just been trying to gage how you would take the news."

"Well I guess you'll just have to find out"

"I guess so. Also, before I forget, thank you for dinner. It is really good! I had no idea you could cook."

"Thank you. Youtube is a wonderful thing for a 10 year old" I gave a small laugh remembering when my foster parents had left me home alone and hadn't fed me that day so I went on the dinosaur of a computer and looked stuff up on YouTube. After that, I never went hungry.

"So I had a question for you and I don't really know what you'll say, but I hope you say yes."

"Okay what is it? The curiosity has been eating me alive!"

"Theres no easy way to go about this but...willyougoontourwithme?" He spoke super fast and I could barley understand what he was saying. I just stared at him as my mind tried to digest what he said. He stared back at me waiting for an answer.

"You...you want me to go on tour? With you?..."

"That is what I said." he answered with a nervous smile.

This opportunity could be major for my singing career but I would have to quit both my jobs. If this doesn't kick off my singing career, I would have no job to come back to and I wouldn't be able to support myself. If I did this, I would be taking a huge risk. I wanted to say yes but the unknown is what always holds me back. I'm not a girl who takes risks or jeopardize my future. I survive off a routine and going on tour throws routine out the window. But the thought of seeing new places and getting out this city that I've been stuck in for my entire life. Don't get me wrong, I love New York and I would miss this place but I wanted out. I wanted to explore, see what the world had to offer me and maybe even find my purpose in this world.

I have been thinking about this for a while and when I came back to the real world, Shawn was just sitting and staring at me. My cheeks immediately turned red and I looked down. My heart knew what it wanted to do but my mind was trying to be rational. I wanted to be up on stage and share my music with the world. I wanted to be heard by everyone. At the same time, I was scared of making myself so vulnerable. I knew at the end of the day, I was going to say yes.

"Are you sure you want me to go with you? There are plenty, more accomplished artists out there." I was trying to find an excuse to make him second guess himself but it didn't seem to be working.

"Nope. I want you and only you. You are so talented and I know my fans will love you. And you'll love the band and crew! We always have so much fun together on tour. It's more of a family environment than a work environment. My family even stops by when I'm on tour so you could meet them. My sister has been dying to meet you since she heard you sing at my last concert!"
