Connie stepped out of the shower wrapping a towel around herself hearing her phone begin to ring. Assuming she knew who it would be, she picked it up barely looking. "Yes I'm getting ready-" "Ready for what?" She stopped talking for a moment as she heard his voice. "Greg..."

She sat down on the edge of the bed, the smile fading from her face as she swallowed past the small lump that had risen in her throat. They had spoken to each other almost everyday since he had left but this was the first time she'd heard his voice in almost three months.

"It's good to hear your voice..." Connie released a slow breath as she nodded, despite knowing he couldn't see her. "Yeah, yeah it is... I've missed you." "I can barely make myself forget about you. How is everything? The job, the man..." She couldn't help but roll her eyes hearing his laughter. "And stop rolling your eyes Beauchamp, so unattractive which you are not."

She was unable to stop the smile spreading on her face as she glanced to the window. "Work is good, I never thought I'd say it but I'm tired. Well and truly exhausted." Greg sat back on the porch as the sun shone down above him. "I find that hard to believe, I bet you're still working ridiculous hours too-" "Some days... I'm being watched because of the ba-" She stopped herself before it was too late, quickly stumbling over her words as she tried to recover.

"No. I'm not working like I used to." Taking a deep breath she heard him hum. "Anything to do with a particular registrar?" Connie let a small smirk cross her features as she looked across the bedroom to where a pile of his things lay. "If you happen to mean a cocky, arrogant one then yes." "Good, I'm glad he's looking after you."

Connie pushed her hair back behind her ear as she lifted her eyes to the mirror ahead of herself. She dropped her eyes to the draw of her desk thinking of the letters that were inside she was yet to open. It was only hearing his voice that drew her attention to the one thing she was fighting with to forget. "Anyway, I wasn't calling for all of that... I happen to know there's a particular event on tonight-" He was cut off by Connie groaning as she dropped backwards onto her bed.

Greg couldn't help but laugh as he heard her disapproved tone. "I assume from that response that you're going?" "Yes, I am going. And no, I do not want to. Sam made me." Greg paused with a smile as he listened to her grumbling. "Good. Make sure you give him a dance, right where everyone can see because I can't tell you what it does to a man." "What's that supposed to mean?" "Being seen with you like that is one of the best things a man could ask for. Everyone wishes to be in those shoes. Trust me, let him have that."

Connie smiled gently as she played with the edge of the towel. "He wanted to go together, I agreed then told him we couldn't. Then said yes again, and somehow I've ended up going alone now-" "Connie!?" "No he has to work, said he'll get there as soon as he can." Greg surrendered a little as Connie sighed. "You know I'm happy for you?" "Why?"

Greg released a breath as he leant forwards against the railings of the balcony overlooking the city. "Because he always could make you laugh. He loves you, and I know somewhere deep down you know that you feel the same." When she didn't argue he smiled. "I'm glad you've finally accepted that I'm right-" "I wouldn't go that far." The pair laughed before she saw the time.

"I guess I better get ready-" "Yes. Yes, I'll let you get on. I just wanted to wish you luck for your favourite night of the year." She laughed rolling her eyes as she stood up. "Don't put things off any longer, grab it and never let go. I'll speak to you soon Connie." "Goodbye Greg."

As the line went dead she looked at her reflection before pulling on her dressing gown. Moving to the cabinet, she opened the draw seeing the letter she had dreaded opening for the last four days. The sickness rose as she scanned her name on the front of the envelope. The test results from the paternity test had come back and she had hidden them as soon as they arrived. She wasn't ready to know, but something inside her told her she needed to look before she went tonight.

Tearing open the envelope, she was doing everything she could to stop herself from throwing up. Taking a final deep breath she ran her eyes over the letter before coming to a stop. Shutting her eyes, she let a small smile come to her lips as her head dropped to her hands. Re-reading the letter, she released the breath she didn't realise she'd been holding.

Connie jumped as her phone vibrated from the bed beside her. Picking it up she laughed seeing his message.
I promise I'll try and get there before you kill Hansen, but in case I don't I'll look for the blue flashing lights and beautiful girl right?

Shaking her head she discarded her phone to the bed placing the letter back into her draw. Getting up in a sudden rush, she began getting ready wanting the hours to pass as quickly as possible. All she wanted was to see him, to stand there and finally be able to see him and know that this, what they had wouldn't be destroyed by something she should have stopped months ago.

Placing a hand to her stomach, she let her eyes drop. "Let's get ready and go see your Daddy shall we?"
