snickered at the girl. Floraline swiftly turned back to find no one behind her. "Odd. Thought I heard someone chuckle. I must be imagining things. If so I need metal help." Floraline whispered to herself. Yet someone happened to eavesdrop on the human and teased her, "Yeah you do." Everyone stood silent.
"Because she said 'I need mental help!'" The boy claimed. Everyone let out an "oh!". Then they all laughed at the incompetent insult. Where's the teacher when you need him?
Coincidentally the teacher walked through the door that moment. All the noise quickly died down. Jerks, Floraline glared at the boy who made the joke. The boy waved and blew a kiss. Disgusting. I'm not into you, Kid. Flora thought while making a sour face.
She felt a tap on her shoulder. She looked back to find Mia Castaneda waving at her. This girl was very kind and funny. Floraline wasn't going to lie about having a tiny crush on the girl. Mia had long and straight brown hair, almond eyes, rosy cheeks, a thin line of pink for lips, and was as thin as a twig, and also had dark olive skin. She was somewhat opposite from Floraline. Well when it came to weight and clothing. Mia wore chokers and short shorts. Which Floraline highly dispised.
"What's up, Mia?" Mia threw back the few whisps of hair behind her ear. "That kid is annoying, huh?" Mia smiled. "Yes! Very. Do you know his name?" Mia nodded, " Yep. Giovanni. He's that stereotypical white kid who drinks star bucks, thinks he's all that, cusses, disrespects his parents, insults people for no reason, and flirts woth any girl. But I think he's just trying to hide the fact that he's gay." Mia giggled.
"But who am I to judge someone by their sexuality? They could eat mud for all I care. I really do not get along with people. Only my looks do. Or so says my followers on Instagram. I mean I have a gay brother. So? What does that make him? Nothing just gay. Don't judge someone by who they like. Judge them by personality. And, as I have said many times before, no being gay does not define who someone is."
Floraline was so shocked. Not at Mia being okay with gays.... Well, okay, maybe a little. But with the fact that someone in this entire school had finally said something that made sense.
Something brilliant. Something so heart warming. Something someone her age was meant to say instead of everyone trying to be someone else. Even though it was negative. But, hey, baby steps! "What?" Floraline's gaping mouth began to fade into a smile. "You said something incredible! Something that filled me with hope for humanity!" Floraline's arms opened up and wrapped around Mia. "Wait. Are you saying I'm not smart?" Mia said into the hug.
"I wouldn't say that to a friend! It's because our generation is known to say and do unintelligent things. You filled me with hope, Mia!" Mia was perplexed. "You say some crude and idiotic things, too." Flora nodded in reply but then said, "Yes. I know. It's because I don't want people to judge me. It's not that I care what they think. It's that I care about what I am compared to them. Because I have secrets. So many secrets." Mia was now more intrigued by Flora's statement.
"Like?" Mia asked. "I'm bisexual." Mia made a 'tch' sound. "That's not so bad to people. I mean it's not as bad as being like my brother. Fully gay."
"But you're still implying it's bad, Mia. And it is. For goodness sakes, Gavin Kish acts like it. And you know what?" Mia asked 'what'. "Joshua Aldaz, Natalie Sanchez, and Camilla Benevise all talked about it behind his back. And they're his friends." Mia shrugged, "But they know he's straight." Floraline frowned," But they don't know that I'm not.""Guys" Mr. Palacios called out to the pair,"please this is for the STAAR next week. Pay attention. I'll let you use your phones tomorrow and shit." Mr. Palacios was a relaxed teacher. He was awesome. He cussed, which Floraline kinda hated but, you know, habits.
"Yessir." Mia and Flora said in unison. "If this were Cholka's we'd be screwed. I'm lucky I changed schedules. Anyway, it's fine. Just... try not to think about it, Okay, Flora?" Floraline nodded. The girls both got back to staring at the board full of foreign numbers. "Crap. Should've
