"Please do hurry up, Ruffles! I am afraid the witch will soon appear to feast on our burning corpses. And I do not wish to have my best friend become meat to eat." Ruffles seemed like he understood and nodded toward a cave. This cave held small ponds of water, tiny crystals, and hidden unexplored depths. But all Kenyane and his pup wanted was a make believe home. "Yes! This is perfect. You stay here while I go gather some feathers and leaves to make as beds." Kenyane commanded his pal. Ruffles sat on a rock in the center of the cave. From the outside, it looked as if the dog can be swept up by the shadows any moment now. Kenyane raced to the closest Bermik tree. Bermiks had the softest leaves which felt like stuffing. The closest Bermik to the cave was about two miles away. So he plucked as many as he could before returning to the cave. You see, Bermik leaves were like peacock feathers but more silk pinkish or blue. "Ruffles!" He peeked in to the cave. The cave was empty and no dog was to be found. "No! Ruffles! I can't lose you as well!" Kenyane fell to his knees in defeat. "Such a lovely doggy." An older boy's voice sang in a mellow tone. "Don't touch my dog!" Two peering white eyes popped out at him from the darkness. Then a bright eggshell smile. The older boy stepped into the light to reveal himself as only a mere shadow with the only light in him being his heart and eyes. "Woah! Who are you?" He asked the tall shadow holding his dog. "The shadow boy. It's what the wilderness called me. But my real name is Ekilux. Who are you?" He smiled down at the boy. "I am Kenyane. I'm a Lithumian. I got my name from my grandfather. But.."
