Every word the skeleton said would chill them to the bone.

Sans smiled at the duo. Almost as if he could see them both,
"Well, Kid. You should probably head up ahead. My brother, Papyrus, is a human hunting fanatic." He warned.

Frisk seemed afraid, but Chara giggled, her face dusted red from laughter,
"If his brother's as short as this guy, then he's no threat to you, Frisk." Chara reassured, her legs wrapping around him tighter as she adjusted up to get a better grip.

Frisk ignored her, and looked to sans,
"Thank you." He said, before sprinting off across the bridge.
It was too late, he could see the other figure in the distance, towering over Frisk at roughly 7 feet.

Chara frowned,
"Oh, dear." Was all she could manage.

Frisk trembled, looking around before rushing over to behind a lamp.

"Seriously, Frisk? A lamp?" She asked, but smiled and laughed nonetheless.

Frisk started to feel a bit nervous around Chara, too.
Her smile scared him occasionally. Sometimes it didn't seem genuine. Something about it seemed creepy.

Chara, however, seemed oblivious and careless, so he didn't bother looking too much into it.
For a moment, he thought he heard high pitched note, but it faded as the note changed.

Frisk paid no attention to it, and grumbled,
"look, it's as close as I could get, okay?" He said.
Chara shrugged, and paid attention to the tall figure approaching.

"SANS!" He called angrily, not seemingly noticing the very obvious duo.

Sans approached,
"Yes bro?" He wondered lazily.

Papyrus started complaining about Sans' lazy behavior, and after a few puns and a bit of bickering, Papyrus ran off to finish his duties.

Sans laughed dryly, and went to follow.
Frisk was left alone with his partner in exploration.

Chara glanced around for a moment,
"Free to go." She said.

Frisk nodded and began to walk, enjoying the silence, before it grew uneasy.

"So, Chara. You're pretty light. Do you suppose you could fly?" He wondered.

"Probably not. Do you want me to walk?" She asked, offering to get off of him, though it was nice not being short.

"No, no. It's fine." He reassured.

There was one thing he still didn't understand.

"Chara? If you died by sickness, how did your brother die?" He asked.

"Killed by humans." She shrugged.

"How? There aren't any humans down here." Frisk wondered.

Chara laughed a bit,
"Oh, Frisk. Have you not caught on yet?" She wondered.

"The monster the humans attacked back then, on the surface. That was my brother, and he carried me to the village.." She said.

Frisk grimaced.
But, of course, it did make sense.
"Oh.." He frowned.
"Don't think too much about it." Chara said,

Frisk looked to Chara,
"How are you able to brush it off like that?" He asked.

"I.. I don't." Chara said.
Her happy personality, only for a moment, faded into one of utter grief.
She then smiled again,
"Being sad gets nobody anywhere, Frisk. You've just gotta be happy, and stay determined." Chara smiled,

"Sometimes, when even faith is gone, you only have yourself and the people around you.."
