When the cars arrived to put up the wedding party I moved to travel with Mrs Peel, I didn't want to travel with Janet.
I stared up at the small church in front of me as I got out of the car, heads turned at my progress into the church, i sighed, so beautiful I thought but this was not the day to be wallowing in the pain of the past.
I walked into the cool dark interior which Janet had filled with fragrant flowers, it was too much for my taste but i knew Abigail would love it.
Smiling and nodding my head to those i knew, i made her my down to the family pew and sat down, i was aware in the chatter behind me there would be speculation about my presence and squared my shoulders.
Mrs Peel slid into the seat next to me and patted my arm murmuring "Ignore them, they have nothing better to do until Abigail arrives, not long now"
I smiled back at Mrs Peel as Janet joined us and the music started. I had not had a chance to see Abigail back at the house before we left for the church and I was surprised at how nervous she looked now as she walked down the aisle towards her groom.
I listened to the vicar giving the ceremony and again felt the pull of the past, i should have had this ,friends, family, a 'proper' wedding not the rushed almost silent ceremony i had had. I watched as the happy couple kissed and turned, Abigail now radiant as she made her way back down the aisle followed by the congregation wishing them well and throwing confetti as they passed.
Outside the church the photographer called out groupings for photos, I stayed back and watched, i had already told Janet I would not be in them.
I had sent my gift to them earlier, I was here, just the reception to go and I could leave.
