A tug on a my sleeve drew my attention downwards. A little boy was holding a small box up to me.
"For you" he said smiling
I reached for the box "Thank you , what's this for" i asked him, smiling back.
"Man said to give it to you, said you forgot it" he replied before running off to join the other children running around.
I looked around her, I could not see the child anymore and did not know which man he meant, I looked suspiciously at the box and carefully untied the ribbon and opened it.
Blood rushed through my veins as i desperately tried to see the child, i needed to know who had given him the box, i searched around me, not wanting to believe what i held in my shaking hands.
Unable to stop myself, I looked down at the box in my hand, nestled inside were two rings - my rings!, Rings i had not seen in five years. A small piece of paper sat between the rings, I slowly pulled it free, three words in bold black writing leapt out at me.
Yours - Welcome Back
I closed the box , feeling numb, what should i do, leave now my mind screamed but my body felt shocked, how had he known i would be here.
"Tara are you alright, you look like you've seen a ghost" Janet approached me with a tight look on her face, in that instant I knew Janet had done something or told someone i would be here.
I straightened facing Janet "I am fine but something has come up, I need to leave sooner than anticipated, probably before the reception, I just need to make a quick call to confirm my flight plan"
Janet's smile tightened "Oh but so many people want to catch up with you and you haven't met the new neighbour yet and you ought to thank him for using the field"
Fear crawled up my spine "What new neighbour, I thought Mr Parsons agreed it" I whispered."
"Oh no darling, didn't I say, old Mr Parsons sold up and the new owner is titled, very handsome, I had hoped Abigail would show an interest but she is happy with Fraser, anyway he offered the use of the field, seemed to know you would be flying in, he's been so helpful to me, maybe he's looking for a more experience woman, still you will meet him in a moment, he couldn't make the service but promised he would not miss the reception"
Janet's words made me freeze, i felt trapped but also wanted to scream that he couldn't possibly be interested in Janet because I knew who he was, Janet had not yet given his name but I knew him or thought i had 5 years ago when we had married.
