Powering the helicopter down, I took a deep breath readying herself to deal with a long day, and jumped out.
"Tara, its been too long" she greeted waiting for me by the car.
"Janet" we exchanged air kisses and eyed each other.
I looked at my step mother, she had not changed at all, same bottled blonde hair, long manicured nails, too long to be practical and a tight smile that didn't reach her eyes.
We both knew the only reason I has been invited was that it would raise too many questions if I wasn't present at Abigail's wedding.
"Staying long" she queried.
The question brought my gaze back to her "No, I'm not staying I will be leaving straight after the main reception"
"So soon" Janet smiled "don't you want to catch up with everyone, things have changed around here, new people in the neighbourhood"
My heart jumped "No! I need to get back and as today is Abigail's day we should be heading to the house, I'll just lock up"
"Still so touchy darling, I wonder why" she prodded looking to wind me up.
I turned my back on Janet , locking up the helicopter and just grabbing my small clutch that would see me through the afternoon, I left my other bag inside. I could get it later if needed, then we got in the car.
Reaching the house Janet and turned to me "I'm sure you can entertain yourself, I have lots to do" she told me coldly.
"Im sure you do, thank you for meeting me" I replied smiling faintly not giving her the response she wanted.
