Chapter 13
Max~
I see Mayla run as fast as she can. I follow. She climbs in a ditch. I don't think that is smart. I decide to climb a building. Apartments are a ways ahead of me. I run towards them. People are evacuating the building quickly so I have to push my way through. Finally I am inside. I climb the stairs two at a time. My legs burn as if they were on fire. I grunt. Only six more flights. Five...Four...Three... Two...One. Panting, I open the hatch at the top and climb onto the roof. All I see is water, floating cars, streetlights, but no people. Suddenly I spot Mayla. It has to be her. Who else has that much hair? Then I see a small girl in a yellow shirt. Mayla sees her too and wades close to her. I go back inside to go downstairs. I can't. The water is too high. I have to jump. Ten floors up. Well the water is about a story so I am only jumping nine stories. Nine stories is still a lot. I have to do it. I don't think about it. I just bend my knees and jump.
