I recognized this feeling. I knew it.
"Chara!" I called out with anger.
I stopped falling landing on 'solid ground.'
She walked towards me, her walk as confident as any dead girl.
"That was quick. I didn't realize that you were so intelligent, Frisk—"
"Cut the crap. I know why you keep on attacking me, and you know what, if you just talk to him, I'll let you take control for a little while. I'm trusting you, Chara. Please don't double cross me."
She seemed a bit shocked, "O-Oh, alright, t-then."
Sans' POV:
Frisk got up, but once again, it was not Frisk, but Chara.
"Chara!" I stumbled back, both angry and scared.
"Oh, Sansy, why are you so scared? I just want to talk." She used that tone.
"A-About what?" I stumbled on my words.
"About why you left me to die!" She snapped at me suddenly, taking a few steps forward.
I surprisingly didn't stumble back to counter her moves, "I didn't Chara, I swear."
"Oh really—"
"You honestly think that I'm that selfish? You honestly think that I would leave the girl I loved to die in the hands of the one I hate?" I shouted, my emotions suddenly taking over me.
"You honestly think that I didn't fight for you? You know how hurt you could've gotten if I hadn't taken you into my home, into my heart? You really think that I'd harm my own father for anyone?"
She was silent.
"You weren't there, Sans."
"You've been watching Frisk's movements, right? Did you see a while ago when she was under Gaster's magic and was convinced that she was in some of her worst memories? That she had to relive them?"
A nod.
"That's what happened to you. Your worst fear at that time was being left behind by the one you loved the most, which at the time, was me. You were convinced that I wasn't coming and despite me being there, despite you touching my face and mumbling 'I'm happy that you came' before taking your last breath you are convinced that I left you behind to die!" I shook a little as the tears streamed down my face.
"I. . . I did do that. . ." She looked down, almost ashamed.
"You did. You did. Chara, truth be told, I still love you. There is still a part of my heart that belongs to you and probably never will. But we both need to let go. I need to let go of you and you need to let go of this life, my love."
I walked towards her, taking her hands into my own, lacing them a little bit.
"I believe that after people die, they go on to live again, in another life. I believe that in the future you will have a good life, because you are a good person, Chara. So, whenever you're ready, I'll let you go. And I'll maybe even see you in another life. Who knows, maybe we'll fall for each other again?"
She laughed, a sad laugh, her starting to cry now.
"T-That's a really nice thought, Sans. A-And I believe that too. I-I hope to see you in a future life."
She squeezed my hands before letting go, stepping back and closing her eyes, leaving Frisk. I caught her as she fell, but looked up just in time to see Chara's ghost waving to me, slowing fading away.
I waved back.
