I don't know what I expected when I turned my head. Maybe some tough looking kid here to keep us all in line.
I wasn't expecting the kid I saw.
He looked like he couldn't wait to go home and take a nap. He eyed Beckett's grip on my arm with an exhausted patience, auburn hair tumbling into his eyes.
Beckett ignored the look and kept his hold on me. "This doesn't concern you, Leon."
"Uh, yea, it doesn't really concern me either," I said, trying to tug my arm free.
"I'm not done talking to you," Beckett said, glaring at me.
"Hands to yourself, Townsend," Leon said.
"Mind your own business," Beckett said.
"You are my business now." Leon crossed his arms over his blue vest. "Can't you stay out of trouble for one week, just one damn week?" His eyes slid past Beckett to land on Fagan. "Don't think you're in the clear either. Caleb is fed up with you."
"I'm honored," Fagan said, pressing his hand over his heart.
Leon started moving forward to get Beckett off of me. But Beckett's hand dug in his bag and pulled out a yo-yo, which had Leon slowing in hesitation.
Beckett began to casually drop the yo-yo and snap it back up into his palm. Leon watched with wary eyes.
"Are you seriously afraid of a yo-yo?" I said in disbelief.
Leon tugged his shirt down to reveal a fading bruise on his shoulder. "Clearly you're new here."
"This place is insane. All of you people are insane," I groaned.
Beckett started dragging me away. "Let's go."
"Hey, hold up. I'm not looking to get hit again, but that doesn't mean I can just let you off the hook," Leon said. "Drop him, Townsend."
"Your wish is my command, Prince," Beckett said, flinging his yo-yo so that it crashed against my knee.
I yelped in surprise and dropped to my uninjured knee, rubbing my injured one. Beckett released my arm, a challenge screaming in his eyes at they found Leon.
"There," Beckett said. "I dropped him."
Leon came over, watching Beckett's yo-yo suspiciously as he hefted me back to my feet. I took a cautious step away from Beckett.
"I just wanted to get lunch," I said miserably.
"Name?" Leon asked me.
"Brennan." I gestured to Beckett and his group. "I had the misfortune of being roomed with Fagan. I want nothing to do with any of this."
"I'm Leon," Leon said, pushing me back another step. "Head off. I'll deal with this. If they give you any problems, you let Warren know. He's the ODR in your wing that doesn't look ready to commit murder 24/7."
