*Frisk's POV*

We had made it to the stairs after a very long while of crawling.

I felt my knees go raw, and my hands fill with stinging blisters that ached my fingers and pinched my palms.

The feeling wasn't even close to comforting, and I winced as Leah grabbed my hands and pulled me out of the vent, my legs not willing to put up an effort.

Once I was out of the confined space, I took three deep breaths and let the free space around me linger.

Leah and I hadn't spoken another word to each other in the vent after the "oblivious" incident, though when I had gotten out of the vents, she looked at me with a small smile to the corner of her mouth as she said, "Welp... We made it this far."

Smiling seemed like the most appropriate thing to do at the moment, although what she said didn't affect me that much.

Getting out of the vents didn't seem like an accomplishment, even though the open air and space did. It felt like I had exposed myself, and I couldn't stop my eyes from glancing behind me every moment just in case someone was sneaking up behind me.

Though the action was useless, because Leah was right in front of me and looking behind me at the stairs that lead down, also worried about someone coming up.

I did the same for her as we took a moment to enjoy the space, and I looked at the stretched stairs behind her that lead up in a spiral that created a large square, a door at each corner.

Those doors filled me with anxiety, and I was afraid that at any moment someone would open the entrance and run to us, ready to attack and capture.

Trying to prepare myself for that moment seemed useless, especially since there would be nothing we could do to defend ourselves.

Defense would be useful, and I wondered why we hadn't added that little factor into the plan.

Perhaps it was because we were so determined we would make it without failure.

So far it was going well, what could go wrong?

Leah placed her hands on her hips and relaxed her body as she walked to the railing of the stairs that was made from thick metal.

Her head dipped over, and I almost grabbed her arm to pull her back over as if she was falling.

Why was I so worried about her falling?

There was no way she could fall anyways, not without jumping over of course.

She let out a small sigh as she turned back to face me, and she said, "No one is down there, looks like we're alone on the stairs."

"Lucky us," I said, giving her a warm smile.

Even if something seemed off about Leah, becoming her friend didn't seem like such a bad thing did it?

It would be better than being her awkward acquaintance.

Thankfully, she smiled back and nodded once before looking behind her at the stairs that lead up, her eyes stopping at the door that was stiffly silent.

Expecting sound from it made the moment full of suspense, and at any moment I expected the door to swing open.

Except, still to my surprise, it did open and Leah fumbled for her gun while I gasped and jumped back, too afraid to scream or even shout.

All I could do was stare in horror as the door opened and light flooded through, a figure rushing inside and shutting the door quickly as he pressed his body too it and-
