I slid my closet door open and started moving things around. Everything was all thrown around and the clothes that were supposed to be hanging up were all over the floor. I asked Jamira to hang it up but instead she threw it down on the floor. She was just mad cause I added mama to let me move into the basement instead of sharing the small guest room with Melody while the twins had their own room.
We're still living in my Aunt Kathrine's house cause my mama didn't feel safe going back to ours even after all the windows were fixed. I don't get what difference moving across the street made but ever since the police sweeps there hasn't been nearly as much break-ins as before. Aunt Kathrine's house was way bigger 4 bedrooms and a basement that they used as an entertainment room. They called it that but there was only a TV down there that wasn't hooked up to anything and an old sofa.
My mama got me a bedroom set of my own and I pushed the sofa up against the wall. Now I got this huge room all to myself. I can come in here and when I want to be alone I can close the door and be by myself. I love it but being by myself isn't what I'm focused on right now. Right now I have a date that I was trying to get ready for and the dress that I wanted to wear is nowhere to be found.
"Jam!" I shouted up the stairs. "Where is my blue sundress!?"
"I don't know," she shouted back. She's lying. She's always snooping around in my room and taking my clothes thinking that I don't notice. Other times I just let it go but I need this dress.
"Yes you do, you asked me to borrow it," I stomped up the stairs that led out into the kitchen and found her standing in front of the fridge.
"That was like a week ago, and you told me that I couldn't." she shot back before putting her thumb in her mouth.
"I told you no and you took it!" I yelled.
"Hey, stop all that yelling in my damn house." my mama called from the sofa
Cameron walked around me and into the kitchen with an empty bowl in his hand. He placed it in the sink then turned around and looked at us. "What are you arguing about now?"
"She saying I took her blue dress cause she told me I couldn't wear it but I don't have her stupid dress." Jamira sneered.
"That long dress? With the big hole in the back?" he asked. I nodded. "Melody was wearing that when she left to go to the mall."
"Are you serious, I have a date and I wanted to wear that?" I whined.
"See I told you I don't have it."
"A date with who?" my mama called from the living room.
"I told you mama, Jeremy." I replied.
"He needs to come in here and meet me first." she said.
"I know mama,"
Jamira closed the refrigerator door and walked over to the pantry still looking for something to eat. I turned and went back down to my room and start matching another outfit for my date. I matched something up as quickly as I could because Jeremy already called and say that he was on his way. I finished getting dressed and doing my makeup right before the doorbell rang. I jogged up the steps and sprinted to answer the door but I couldn't get there in time to answer it. By the time I got there Jamira was standing there, thumb in mouth, and standing right in front of Jeremy.
"Damn, I didn't know you had a white boy cousin." She said with a sinister smile. I rolled my eyes and stepped around her to get to him. He smiled and handed me a bundle of blue roses wrapped in white tissue paper.
"Thank you," I said to him.
"Aww das so sweet." Cam teased as he walked past us to get to the staircase that lead upstairs.
I rolled my eyes and took a step back too look at him. He was lookin' just as good as the first time I saw him. He perfectly matched a royal blue polo shirt with some khaki pants that were iron to perfection and a pair of white air forces that I looked like he just took them out of the box. It's a very stereotypical outfit but it worked for him in a way.
"Hey, Jeremy" Jam called out. "You got a brother, or a cousin that look like you?"
"Shut up stupid," I said to her before looking at him. "My mama wants to talk to you."
He nodded." Yeah, that's cool. We have plenty of time before the movie starts."
My mama gave him the standard interrogation. Honestly it's the easiest I ever seen her go on anyone. I don't know if it's because it was me and not Jamira, or because Jeremy is a clean cut white dude, but she was pretty nice. After she was done with her grill session we walked back outside and could see his mother waiting for us in a big black escalade. She looked like a driver and not his mom.
"Ha! Look at that soft lil nigga, dressed like somebody outta 2005." I knew that voice. It was one of the same voice that taunted me for the last four years. I looked up and there he was; Quavo sat proudly on top of an old beat up Cadillac that sat in front of his sister's house. It's been there for years but for some reason weather that be sentimental or stubbornness they haven't gotten rid of it. He was talking amongst a group of friends but he was so loud that we could hear in way across the street.
"Who is that, she nice." Another guy called.
"Yeah, got a little shape on her now." Quavo said. "But when she was younger Maggie was real ugly."
"That's cry baby Maggie?" someone asked.
"They talking about you?" Jeremy whispered to me.
"Just ignore them, they always do this." I said to him.
I rolled my eyes and kept moving toward the car. It was then that I saw an older white Camry come speeding down the street and screech to a stop in front of Quavo and his friend. When I did that my heart dropped a little and I prayed that there wasn't gonna be a drive on our street at this very moment. They must have thought the same thing I did because I saw each one of them reach for their pants and Quavo duck off the trunk of the car where he was sitting. The car cut off and the driver's side door was pushed open and the driver got out, and my heart sank again.
"Nephew!" Quavo called opening his arms out wide.
It was him. Kirshink smiled as he was surround by Quavo and his friends who were giving him a warm welcome like he just came back from college or something. He must have felt me looking because out of nowhere he turned and we locked eyes for a second. A chill ran up and down my spine as he stared at me. Quavo put a hands on his shoulder and said something directly into his ear while they both looked at me, then he just turned away and started toward the house. It was really him he was really back.
When I got home jam tried to corner me in the kitchen and ask about my date. I gave her general answers because I knew she was just being nosey cause she doesn't have a boyfriend right now so she all in everyone else business. "Can you get out of my room?"
"Fine, don't nobody wanna hear about that square anyway." She made a face then left me alone in my room.
I laid down and right before I closed my eyes to go to sleep my phone went off.
Jeremy: I had a nice time at the movies---we should do it again sometime
I smiled and texted him back.
Me: anytime
Then laid my phone on under my pillow and went to sleep.
