Magdalyn 'Magic' James

Jamira has been talking about formal since they went back to school. it isnt even her senior year because she failed two core classes last year but you cant tell her nothing about going to formal. My aunt Kat sent her 600 dollars to get a dress and her hair done and everything else and that's all she wanted to talk about. Me being her cousin of course she had to drag me along with her to go dress shopping every single time she went.

"You should get something else....red maybe because that aint it." i said a I turned my attention back to the magazine in my hands. she had her heart set on this long lacey dress but it looked terrible on her. the color wasnt nice on her skin and the lace wasnt the same color as her skin.

"You sure this aint it?" she asked me.

"If you gotta ask me that then it's not it." i said to her.

we stayed there for almost two more hours and she didnt find a dress. she's gonna drive me crazy trying to get a dress for this stupid dance and it's not even her senior formal. She was all boosted up because offset asked her to go with him o she felt like she had to be the hottest thing in there.

"Have you decided on a color yet?" i asked her.

"i dont want to limit myself just yet....i want the perfect dress to find me." she said.

You would wear that this girl was getting married or something the way that she was acting and this is just a stupid dance.

"Why arent you going to formal?" she asked.

"it's not that important. jeremy and i dont want to go." i replied. it was true; we talked about it and he's going to be out of town anyway so there is no point in going.

she asks me why i'm not going but she forgets that my school doesnt have a formal dance like this. we have a prom at the end of the year but at Jamira's school there were situations at their proms a few years a row so they officially canceled it, but they give a formal in a smaller more controlled situation.

"if you got asked by somebody else would you go?" she asked.

"why do i feel like you have something up your sleeve?" i asked her.

"because i might," she said with a smile.

Jamira 'Jam' Green

she thinks i have something up my sleeve and i do. that little white boy got her out doing all this corny stuff like going mini golfing. what the hell kind of date is that. she needs to get away from those boujie white people and hang around her kind. i was sitting at lunch with set and the rest of the guys and trina was sitting next to take talking his head off and you could tell he just wanted her to go away.

"So what do you think about orange?" She asked. "it's my favorite color."

"trina-"

she just started talking again like she didnt even just ask him a question. he sucked in a deep breath and banged his hands to the table making everyone go silent. "trina, we're not going together."

"excuse me?" she asked.

"I....uh...i-"

"just tell her." i called out. everyone turned and looked at me.

"just tell me what?" she asked full of attitude.

"that he already has another date, and he had one way before he started messing with you." i replied.

she made a face. "With who?"

"you dont know her. she dont go here." take said.

"you dont know who i know. What's her name?" she demanded.

This was perfect. just what i needed to make my whole entire plan fall into place. "Magic," i said to her.

Quavo turned around and looked at me. "who?" he asked.

"You know my cousin Magdalyn." i said to him.

"really?" he looked over at his nephew. "you goin with maggie."

"yeah," takeoff replied. trina looked at him then over at me before sher rolled her eyes and pushed away from the table. she snorted before turning on her heels and walking away.

after lunch i was on my way back to class and takeoff stopped me at the door. "you threw that out there, so how we supposed to make this happen?"

"Just trust me." i said to him. he shook his head.

"she gonna shoot me down like sniper if I try to ask her to that dance." he said. he leaned himself against the wall and looked down at his feet.

"you know she's not as mean as she seems. i'll set you up." she said.

"this better work," he said. "dont have me looking stupid."

Kirshnik "takeoff" Ball

Jamira was more of a help than i thought she was gone be. She told me everything her cousin likes and doesn't like and what she thought the perfect way to ask her would be. She was talking about rose petals and all this shit like i was about to ask Maggie to marry me or something and it's just a dance. i bought her some flowers and some candy. that should be enough.

Jam told me that i should wait until her mama was around to ask her, and that i should wear a nice shirt so that i wouldnt look like a hoodrat. i know Ms. James still dont like me cause of all that shit that happened years ago but she just dont know that i didnt have nothing to do with her house getting broken into. She just assumed that it was me.

it was almost dark when i knocked on their door. her mama answered it and i could tell by the look on her face that she wasnt happy to see me but at the same time she was shocked.

"uh, good evening Ms. James.....uh is maggie here?" i asked.

she looked at me then the flowers in my hands. "Magdalyn!" she yelled out.

Maggie came to the door a second later and it was amazing how she made the same face her mama did when she realized that it was me. "What's up?" she asked.

"uh, you know that we have that dance in like two weeks and I wanted to know if you wanted to go.....with me.....as my date......to the dance." I stopped and she cocked an eyebrow.

"you put on a button down to walk across the street and ask me to a dance?" she asked. I held the flowers out to her and she took them.

"it starts at 8 right?" she asked. I nodded. "be here to pick me up at 7 and don't be late." She stepped back into the house and left me standing there with her mama. I was about to turn away but her mama stopped me.

"you mess with my daughter and ill kick your ass boy," she warned.

I shook my head. "it's nothing like that. I just wanted to go with her."

"Why," she demanded. She stepped forward and closed the door behind her so that they wouldn't hear us in the house. "You gave my daughter shit for years and now you show up on my doorstep to ask her out on a date. What you up to?"

"nothing Ms. Jam-"

"bullshit,"

"I liked her." I said. she turned her head and looked at me. "when we was young, I liked her but I was a kid and I didn't know how to deal with that.....i liked her Ms. James. I'm not tryna do anything to her."

"I'm telling you, I don't play behind my kids boy. Something happens to my baby Imma put my foot so far up your ass your teeth gone be the same color as my toenail polish." She said.

I nodded. "I understand ma'am." She opened the door and walked back into the house leaving me there by myself.
