Everywhere was so busy, the house of the Johnsons was rowdy and busy. They were the host of the Andersons.
Early in the morning, everybody was up for the preparation.
No one was idle, everyone engaged in one thing or the other. The house was decorated with notes of different welcoming words inscribed on each.
It's been so tiring and all Sam could think was welcoming the Andersons is sure a Herculean task.
She would wipe the sweat on her forehead every minute as it shows that she is getting to the point of fatigue.
That's what happen when you're not use to chores. She don't stay home, just with Emma all the time and early in the morning, she is out for either rehearsal or photo shoot.
Sam's father have been recovering from his wife's death by replacing a girlfriend after another. This is why Sam refused to go home at all, despite that she goes there just once in a while.
"Everywhere is home, as long as I'm sleeping and waking up fine," she told Emma.
It's almost noon and they worked with Mrs Johnson in the kitchen as she prepare all sort of meals for the welcoming.
"You take this to the dinning , and you, pack the dishes," she ordered.
They did it so fast and diligently because none of them wants to be yelled at.
"Emma," Sam called.
"Huh?"
"Do you know if dad went with them to the airport, I mean my father,"
"Yea I think, everyone promised to stay home today because of our long gone family friend who is arriving," Emma explains.
"Sound sweet, wish everyday should be for welcoming," Sam drawled.
"And why is that?" she raised her eye brow, being confused.
"Don't you see it's turning out to be in the favour of my family, dad's home on a Sunday? That's unusual,"
"And you being home on a Sunday isn't strange?" Mrs Johnson added as she joined the girls with setting up the dinning table.
Sam's eyes shut out and Emma just giggled.
"That's because I have to rehearse," Sam protests.
"Who have a dispute to that, expect that you come home being all drunk and in a state of stupor,"
And there we go again, Sam thought.
Who knew she was eavesdropping while they were discussing. Mrs Johnson, like the woman she is, always look for a perfect time to have her words. All she needed was a start and Sam helped her with it.
For few minutes, she go on chiding her and every seconds the girls will look at each other and give a tiring signal.
"I'll go have my bath, you two should dress up too, they should be here any moment from now. And decency please, I mean in your dressing," she said going toward the staircase.
"Are we welcoming the president?" Emma voice inaudibly but it wasn't vague for her mother not to hear.
"Will you shut up, you silly girl," Mrs Johnson snapped and the girls laughed so hard at the realisation of being caught.
"This?" Sam asked.
"No, mom said decency, do you forget?" Emma reminded her.
"How could I? I'm just tired, so so tired 'cause this is the fifth outfit I'm bringing out and you declining, ain't they decent enough?"
She downed her weight on the bed trying to depict how weary she is getting not able to find the decent outfit to welcome the Anderson.
"Maybe you don't know mom's definition of decent, and yours strayed a bit from hers," Emma teased.
"You know what? Since you can best define the decent, why not go on with the search, and pick out what you think is okay enough, as for me, I could just wear a bump short and tank top," she said being honest.
If decency was to be defined by the mode of dressing, then Sam got no ratings. She prefers clothes that makes her comfortable regardless of how revealing it seems to be.
She laid on the bed as Emma takes place of the search and continue with the rummaging. Sam's closet is looking all scattered and lumped because she couldn't find just one outfit that will behoove the occasion.
As Emma continues to search for her, she decides to go through her phone and check some updates needed for her rehearsals and training.
"This?" Emma asks, raising up a full length black gown.
"Hell no, I'm not putting this on," she dissents.
And Emma go back to getting another one of her choice.
"Friend?" Sam called.
"Yes?"
"You know, I'm feeling strange about something,"
"What is it?" Emma perks as she go on with what she is doing without looking up.
"I find my self thinking more about this Mike Anderson, his arrival is just kind of arousing some weird curiosity in me. Like how he looks, is he tall, how he's going to speak, you know I can't just stop thinking about it," she explains smiling meekly to her self.
Amidst her words, she did not notice that she caught a lot of attention from Emma and instead of searching, Emma is now paying her a considerable amount of attention.
It shouldn't be what I am thinking, Emma thought.
But what was she thinking? That in the end, Sam might later requite the love and of course Mike will be so happy about it because that's what he has always dreamed of.
And when that happens, she will be left out of the unknown triangle, and like a dust, everything she ever felt for Mike will vanish unnoticed.
Even though it's her everyday thought, she never think she could handle it when it happens.
"Is Sam falling for the Mike she don't know about already?" she teased, trying to hide her fear.
Sam giggled at her words.
"Falling? Do you mean in love or out of love? Because if it is in then you know that's never gonna happen," she said confidently.
"Really I don't understand you,"
"Emma you know me too well, love is not my thing. The rule is nobody love, nobody gets hurt. You know I don't fall in love,"
"And why?"
"So I don't break my bone," she answered sarcastically and the two of them burst into hysterics.
"Seriously Sam, I don't know what will happen to me without you,"
"And you know I'm sure not existing without you as well,"
After few minutes of searching which have led to a serious dismantling, they both got an apt outfit. It was a long sleeve free gown that stops just above the knee. They bought it together for the last year Christmas celebration and since Mrs Johnson made no comment when they wore it to the church, they believe it'll be safe.
They heard the honk and Katherine called them simultaneously which they heed immediately as they rushed down the stairs to get the door opened.
"Look who is here," Alex chirped happily as Katherine get the door opened.
And now, the long awaited arrival of the Andersons is no more an imagination, now they are back to stay.
