The feel of dread was so strange to Mike. He has never been so scared for someone in his life, not like this at least. He took long strides along the walkway that is getting dark due to the evening dusk and the security light that was still off. In spite of that, he walked swiftly and quickly, launching hurriedly at the door.
He slowed down a little, part of him being calm as he realised that he was almost there. Just a few steps past the stairway and he will get to her.
The ride from Superb restaurants to their home was very scary. It took everything within him not to go against the traffic rules. Hell. He almost hit a nursing mother with two kids. At that point, he reached a conclusion. He cares for Emmanuella, so much that he couldn't understand how, why or when it started.
He remembered Samantha requesting for him to drop her off because she don't want to risk her life with an idiot like him. In that moment, nothing consumed his mind than the safety of Emma. Mike dropped Sam as she wanted and she hopped out of the car furiously, hurling insults at him. He couldn't care less though, his mind was set somewhere else and Sam's insults made no sense to him.
"Mike?" Katherine, Emma's mother, called from the dinning room, taken aback by the way Mike darted into the house.
"What's the problem?" she asked with an unsure stare, analysing his unsettled mood.
"Ma'am it's Emma. I don't know what happened but I really have to check on her," he managed to say without trailing off and he jumped the stairs quickly.
Katherine dropped the empty ceramic bowl she was holding and headed straight to Emma's room with a deranged mind. What could've gone wrong? She came out of her room not long ago to prepare dinner but she didn't have it in mind to check on her because all her thoughts was that she was still out.
Mike turned the knob of the door to her room and entered abruptly, leaving the door opened. The lifelessly laying girl struck his heart and he was terrified from head to toe. He cringed inwardly, saying some silent prayers.
It can't be worse than this. It won't be. Emma will be fine. He whispered.
"Emma. Emma." he called impatiently, sweating profusely and uncontrollably. He lifted her head up, balancing it on his lap as he stretched his legs on her bed carelessly with his shoed foot.
He tapped her shoulder continuously, awaiting a response but it proved futile. He saw her phone just beside her and realised that she called him just out of sheer unconsciousness.
She's passed out, he thought. But why? What could've happened?
He searched his phone frantically, watching her frightfully as her brown hair sprawl all around his lap.
Katherine walked in through the already opened door and Mike said to her, "call the doctor. She passed out,"
Passed out? Katherine repeatedly asked herself. She left Emma's room instantly to get her phone, leaving Mike to struggle about what next to do.
He then thought of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation. That would do, he assured doubtfully. But he knew better. He have seen a lot of incidents like this which CPR have helped fruitfully and he hoped trying it for the first time will prove as effective.
Emma please be fine. Be strong. Mike begged, hoping that his mind would communicate better with the unconscious girl laying vegetatively.
He lifted her gently, placing her head carefully on the puffy pillow on her bed. He touched her forehead mildly, almost scared of hurting her the more. He used the fore and mid fingers of his idle hand to tilt her chin up, and her lips parted a little.
