Wally
I stopped in Montana, out of breath. Dang, Iris was heavy. But don't tell her that. Or anyone for that matter, I'd like to keep my head, thank you.We had decided to go to Quebec, because it was near New York, so we could get to Percy if necessary. Although, hopefully, it wouldn't be.
We might get a plane to Europe later on, not really sure. As long as Iris was okay, I didn't care.
"Wally!" Iris called, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Hm? What's up?"
"We need a place to stay, and don't have enough money." Oh crap. She's right for once.
"Wally West! How dare you! For your information, I am right more than eighty percent of the time!"
"Oh, did I say that out loud?" I gave a nervous chuckle. "My bad." She groaned and rolled her eyes.
"How about I just steal some money?"
"What! No! No way! I'm not letting my little brother steal!"
"But we need it! We'll get the cheapest, dinkiest motel room there is. Just this once. Please."
"Fine."
LINE BREAK
My heart hammered in my rib cage. This is so stupid. I am so stupid. "Wally? What's going on?" I heard.
I had hooked up the earpiece in my suit to Iris's Bluetooth so we could talk, and was now outside some Walmart.
"Iris, I... I can't."
"Look, West, I am sad, and angry, and tired, and I wanna sleep on a bed tonight, no matter how crappy it is. The security cameras are disabled and you can literally run faster than the speed of sound. So woman up and get the cash."
"Yes, ma'am."
I sucked in a deep breath, ignoring the thudding in the pit of my stomach, and zipped through the doors as they opened for a shopper.
Of course, everyone was standing still for me, but I went to the nearest cash register and rifled through paper bills, before deciding on just a thousand. Another thousand from each register, and I split.
Seconds later, I arrived at the alley I'd left Iris. She was gone.
"Iris?" I called. "Iris! Where are you!" I saw her step out of a gas station across the street, grasping her ear.
"Calm down, Walls," she said, coming to me. "I just had to use the bathroom. Now, how much do you think a hundred will cover?"
My eyes widened. "I, uh... I got seven thousand dollars." She gasped, but then grinned. "Really? You're not mad? Because that's a lot."
She shrugged it off. "It's Walmart. They probably make millions a day. Now, let's get a room and some food."
I smiled and sauntered along with her, not registering a flash emitting from her phone.
