Glitz, Glam and Gangsters
The Tardis jolted one last time before it stopped moving completely. We had reached our final destination.
I let go of the console and made my way toward the Tardis door.
"What are we doing, then,?" I asked the Doctor.
"Oh, I'm going to New York City, circa 1923, but you're not, not looking like that at least."
"Very funny Doctor, you think this era can't handle a little 21st century fashion?"
"That's quite the understatement, the point is to fit in Jessie, where we're going we don't want to be noticed. So, go look through the costume wardrobe and find something more flapper."
"Alright, Doctor, I'll be back in something a little more flapper."
I chuckled lightly to myself at the Doctor's mumbo jumbo. The funny thing was that he said it all in a sort of serious manner, which just made it even more funny.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Oh nothing, nothing at all," I hid a small smile as I went up the stairs leading away from the main room.
I followed the side corridor down and lost track of where I was. The hallway seemed to go on for quite a long time, the walls were a metal shade of blue, unlike any I had seen before. They were marked with long metal spirals, each one a different size.
"Doctor? Now, where was that wardrobe?"
"Have you gotten yourself lost now? It's not that hard, remember? I told you seven lefts, 3 rights and follow the corridor all the way down. It's not rocket science! Scratch that rocket science was dreadfully boring and easy, make it nuclear physics, now that is interesting!" The Doctor's voice echoed down the hallway from the main console.
"Last time I checked rocket science was hard," I said.
I couldn't understand for the life of me how the Doctor never got lost in the Tardis. It was humongous! Three castles could probably fit inside this old telephone box. And yet the Doctor kept it all rustic looking, he didn't have a single crystal chandelier or even a prized jewel. I think he preferred it that way.
"Aha! I found the...wardrobe."
This was no wardrobe, it was a room, practically two large ones in fact! The walls were a dark blue and small golden orbs shone right off of the wallpaper, they were stars. A pale silver moon was painted against the back wall. Once, I had closed the door, the whole effect of the night sky erupted. The once dormant stars shone brighter and a solar system spun around the golden sun. It was magnificent.
I gaped in awe at the beautiful sight, it was astonishing. It almost seemed like I was looking up at the real sky.
Stepping back, I began to look for the flapper costume. The walls were lined with tons of hangers from each century, they ranged from Victorian, to Cowboy, to just about anything. Each were categorized with a white piece of paper with bold black letters clipped onto the front. Above the closet were hundreds of mahogany drawers filled with jewelry and props. I glimpsed through several costumes before finally finding the one I needed.
I even managed to find several changing rooms at the very back of the walk in closet. Staring in the mirror, I looked back at my reflection. I looked like I might actually belong in the 19th century. I was wearing a gold sparkly mini dress with a pair of black stiletto heels. My hair was pulled back into an elegant updo and held into place with a black shimmering hair band. The one thing that took me off guard was my face, my lips were covered in a bright red lipstick and my eyelashes were slicked up with black smokey mascara. My green eyes popped against the golden eye shadow which managed to complete the outfit. Grabbing my gold clutch, I headed for the door only to find the Doctor standing there.
