Skylar

Two months later

I woke up and prepared to meet August's mother today. I'm not as nervous as I was before. I'm just feeling a little dizzy.

I took a shower and put on a maxi skirt and a crop top only revealing a small part of my flat stomach.

I put my hair in a high bun, and put on some wedge heels. I applied some red lipstick, and grabbed my favorite MK bag.

August called me to tell me he was downstairs, so I went downstairs and sure enough, Aug's black lambo was parked in front of my building.

I got in his car and he smiled at me. "Damn ma. Look at you looking all proper and shit."

I laughed and kissed his cheek. He frowned. "The hell?"

"What?" I asked.

"Kiss on the cheek ma really?"

I rolled my eyes and kissed him on his lips.

He chuckled and drove off. "Time to go meet ma dukes. You scared ma?"

"Nah. Not anymore. She'll love me. I'm all that and a bag of chips my nigga."

He chuckled again. "She will."

He drove to his mama house and when he got out, all I saw was camera's flashing and paparazzi. August just grabbed my hand and remained calm.

I rolled my eyes as we walked into his mother's house. I was greeted to the smell of delicious food, and August immediately smiled.

"Hey ma." He hugged her and kissed her cheek.

She smiled. "Hey Aug. "

I smiled and introduced myself to her. "I'm Skylar." She smiled and hugged me. "Aug's told me alot about you. You're family now."

I smiled at him. "Awww."

"Ma, you blowing up my spot." August said as he sat down at the table. I laughed, and helped his mom put the food on the table then I sat down.

After we ate, I was full. His mother can really throw down in the kitchen. That gumbo was on point.

August went to go start the car as I stayed behind to help his mother clean. "Thank you for the food. It was delicious." I smiled at her. She returned my smile. "No, thank you."

I looked at her with a confused look. "For what?" She smiled again as she set the dishes in the sink. "For making my son happy. You know, he aint been here in a long time before now. " I smiled. "Well, you're welcome. I'll see you later." I said before hugging her and walking out to August's car.

The next day, I woke up feeling light headed. I got a text from D saying to check the shaderoom. I was a little confused, but I did and I was shocked. On the cover was a small picture of me in my starbucks uniform and another at the bar working. The enlarged picture was of August and I walking into his mothers house. The headline read "Superstar August Alsina dating low class starbucks employee. You can do better August."

I threw on some sweatpants, a tee shirt, black timbs and drove to August's house. Once I got inside, I was beyond pissed. "Wassup ma?" He said as he laid back on the couch and started rolling a blunt. I took the newspaper out my bag and threw it at him. He chuckled and I looked at him like he was stupid. "That shit is not funny. I respect how you live and who you are, but I can't have my personal life all in newspapers August." He continued to roll his blunt. "Nah ma. Im laughing at the fact that you care about that shit. I know what I want and that's you. Fuck the paparazzi ma. I gotchuu." I got up and walked to the bathroom and stumbled a little. What the hell is wrong with me?

"You aight Sky?" August asked as he got up to help me. I nodded. "I'm just dizzy and shit."

He looked concerned. "Just sit down ma." I did as he said and got me a glass of water. I started to think of all the possible things that could be going on with me. Am I pregnant? I quickly pushed that thought out of my mind because August and I had always used condoms.

I sat down. "Maybe we shouldn't do this."

He looked at me confused. "Whatchuu saying ma?"

"Maybe what the paparazzi says is true. You can do better than me so maybe we should stop."

He just stared at me. "Ma, Ion know why you letting the bullshit affect you. I don't want nobody else but you. If I already got the best, what's better than that? But I aint gon' force you to be in this relationship. So if that's what you want, leave. " He walked away.

Did I really wanna end us? I mean, for the five months we've been together, I've been genuinely happy. But, I've been slacking at work. My boss At Starbucks is always on my back about me being late or taking too many breaks and I barely show up for bar tending. The only way to get back on track with my plans is to let August go. I need more money to be able to pay off my tuition at Spelman. Clearly, I can't maintain a job and a man at the same time.

I sighed sitting there on the couch but I finally got up and walked upstairs to August.

I opened his door and he was rolling a blunt.

"You figured yo shit out ma?" August asked me as he inhaled.

I shook my head. "Look, I need money to go to college ok? I've been slacking at work and that's because I've been distracted by you."

"I already told you I gotchu, but you too damn stubborn to accept it, so do you ma."

I looked down.

"You gon' stand there looking stupid or are you gon' leave?" He asked rudely.

"I'll leave."

"Aight ma. When you leave, don't come back. " August continued to smoke.

I sighed and left. I just need to focus on my life right now, so maybe this was for the best.
