Magnus didn't admit this often but he was scared.
Dead bodies were spread around like a feast before him. A feast for the demons hovering over them and the ones flying in the dark sky like greedy vultures.
Downworlder blood was spilled everywhere along with Nephilim blood. The whole place reeched of the metallic smell of blood and Magnus feelt like throwing up.
He saw a warlock girl collapse as a Shax demon rippef her body apart. Magnus rushed towards her to help, to do anything he could but his magic wasn't working. His body wasn't working.
His hands passed through the warlock as she pleaded for help, screaming in agony. And he could only watch helplessly as her breathing ceased.
He hated this - not being able to do anything. To see an innocent life extinguish before his eyes. Which was why when he heard a cry he ran in its direction - and stopped short.
No.
Not him.
Not his Alexander.
But it was his Alexander, who stood in front of a huge demon with nothing but a bow and arrow to defend himself. He doesn't even know how to use it", Magnus thought, desperately trying to ignite his magic.
But he could only watch in horror as the demon sent Alec crashing down into ruins, impaling him in the stomach.
"Alexander!"

Magnus woke up with a start and found himself on the floor, his body shining with sweat and his breathing as ragged as could be.
He slowly gathered his surroundings and realized that he had been having a nightmare and had probably fallen from his bed at one point of time.
A shiver ran down his spine as the image of a dead Alec resurfaced in his mind and he immediately pushed it away.
He took one look at the cat shaped clock hanging on the wall and groaned. He was late. His clients could be lining up any moment.
Quickly magicking himself into a pair of leather pants and button down shirt, he ploppef down on the sofa, a coffee appearing in his hand as he prepared himself for the incoming day.
Magnus was sometimes astonished by the stupidity of mundanes, and that was saying something as he had been through his fair share of surprising events.
Twice he turned down requests of a love potion, having to portal away the man who started begging and crying on his knees. He raised a demon from the depths of Edom, only to find his client taking photographs for a 'project' and had to demolish his camera - he couldn't let the Shadow World be discovered to petty mundanes. At least they played well...
But despite that, Magnus was well annoyed at having half of his Sunday ruined when he could have been spending it with his hotter-than-the-sun boyfriend.
When his last client came in, asking him to raise a specific demon, Magnus was engrossed in the thoughts of aforementioned boyfriend and almost completely tuned him out. In the end, the werewolf left after getting him to sign a contract and saying something about meeting him in the evening.
Which was when it struck Magnus that he had signed up to raise a demon the same evening. He cursed himself for not paying attention. Really, he was just asking for one Sunday evening with Alexander.
