My Choice

Chapter 5

Current Time: 12:00 p.m.

Location:Gates of Karanes

Scarlet's P.O.V.

The survey corps made there way throughout Trost and towards the gates to the outside.

"Look it's Captain Levi!!" One citizen pointed out.

"They say he's as strong as an entire brigade!!" Another male pointed out.

It's the same scene all over again. The same as the day when the walls if Trost were breached.

"Levi... can't you at least give them a sign of confidence that we'll succeed during this expedition?" Hanji leaned onto her horse's mane and complained.

"Shut up..." He spat as he didn't take his eyes off of the road in front of him.

"That's typical Levi for you Hanji." I chuckled and looked over at her, "What can we say? Levi is normally like that."

"And what is that supposed to mean Scarlet?" He raised an eyebrow at me barely taking his eyes off of the road.

"N-nothing Levi!!" I held my hands up until Commander Erwin called me.

"Scarlet! Come up here now! We are about to leave!!!" I guess Commander wanted me up there with him as we left.

As I rode up next to him, I passed my brother who gave me some good words to think about, "Remember Scarlet. After this expedition, we're going to get that meal you have been wanting."

"Big Brother I don't want to go to the outside of the wall! I heard there is big scary monsters out there who could eat you!" I clung onto the shirt of my big brother as he carried me through the market.

"Well you won't have to. Ever. You're perfectly safe out here. I don't want you to do that big scary job that Uncle does." He set me down in front of a booth that had dolls on the table, "You promise me you won't do that okay?"

I picked up a doll and held it out to my brother, "I promise!"

To this day I still carry that doll around with me. Although the doll shrunk. It's about the size of the palm of my hand now that I've grown.

It's actually sitting in my breast pocket right now. That doll accompanied me everywhere I go. It's my companion to see the outside world.

But every time that we go beyond the walls, that time with my brother comes up in my mind. It's the thought that I broke a promise to him.

I glanced back to look at my brother chatting with someone in his squad. He didn't seem to mind on how much I've grown and helped humanity. In fact he seems kind of proud that I broke that promise.

That is, if he remembers the promise I made to him.

"Corporal Scarlet? Is everything alright?" A soldier next to me looked at me with a concerned face, "You were staring blankly at your horse so it looked like something was on your mind."

"I'm fine," I smiled at the soldier, "Now get ready to leave because the gates are beginning to open up."

As soon as the gate lifted off the ground Commander Erwin shouted, "TODAY!!! THE SURVEY CORPS LEAVE ON THE 57TH EXPEDITION BEYOND THE WALLS! OFFER UP YOUR HEARTS SOLDIERS!!! ONWARDS!!!!!"

All of us began to charge out if Karanes and into the outside world.

Time to take a big step in humanity. To get rid of these things that invaded our Earth.

And I'll do this with my brother on my side. Also, with the man...with the man I am beginning to fall for.
