Chapter 14

Scarlet's P.o.V.

"It's about everything that happened last night..." Erwin tried to reach out to hold me shoulder but I quickly jerked away from him and moved to the other side of my horse.

"Go ahead and continue." I said as I began to brush my horse's mane. Such a majestic horse he was...

"I don't love Sarah I love you Scarlet." He said with so much emotion in his voice.

"How do I know huh? Just a few minutes before all of that you told me you wanted to get married. Just a few minutes after I lost all my trust in you. Erwin I do love you too. But after seeing you meet lips with that women I'm scared." I felt my hands begin to shake a bit.

I was scared that he didn't love me. I was scared that my heart was being toyed with. I was scared of being hurt again. Most of all, I was scared that I wasn't suitable enough for Erwin.

"I know you must be scared Scarlet. You've been going through a lot lately." He said as I heard his feet shift around, "But I want to be the one to protect you. To comfort you through times like this. I want to be the one who gets to hold you in their arms at night when they sleep."

Erwin's P.O.V.

Scarlet soon came out from behind her horse. She turned towards me and for the first time today our eyes met.

"Why Erwin? Why me out of every women?" Her eyes were rimmed with tears.

"Scarlet you stood out to me like no other women would," I gave her a warm reassuring smile, "As we grew closer I knew you were the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life protecting."

"But I'm a weak girl. There's plenty of women who are much more suitable for you. I'm just a mere soldier."

"A soldier who is well known for her dedication and skills. The best women of her regiment. For all those good qualities you contain I'm sure you're much better than all of those other women who were on my list of women to pick Scarlet. You don't know how overjoyed I was when I discovered you were on there."

Scarlet wiped her eyes and took a step closer to me, "Erwin... I love you I really do."

That's when I noticed her necklace shining under the sunlight. It was the one I gave her a while back.

"You wear that necklace everyday don't you?" I smiled at her and took a step closer to her, "That means you're telling me the truth huh?"

Scarlet nodded and took a step closer to me. I think we're finally getting things settled now in between us.

"I'm glad," By now we were close enough that out hands were intertwined, "Scarlet I'm truly sorry for everything that happened yesterday. I let my guard down."

"Erwin I'm sorry too. I didn't give you a chance to explain. I overreacted and acted like a teenager." She rested her head on my chest and took a deep breath.

We remained silent for a while until some soldier said we were to depart in 15 minutes.

Scarlet let out a small giggle, "I guess our time alone has been interrupted but I do believe we have duty to attend to."

I was glad to see her like this. She was slowly trying to fix her broken self.

"I shall meet you in the front of the HQ I guess?" I looked down at her as she walked over to her horse to secure the reins.

"I suppose. But Erwin come here for a second." She said as she placed on the saddle of the horse.

"Yes what is it?"

Scarlet turned towards me and suddenly pulled the collar of my shirt so I was leveled with her on her tip toes.

And that was the first time our lips have met.

Her lips were soft and plush. I could just stay like this forever if I could.

"Let's have a good day today okay?" She gave me a warm smile and began to walk away towards Levi with her horse.
