FLASHBACK CHAPTER
TWO MONTHS AGO
Erwin's P.O.V.
Charlie and I sat down inside my office having tea and talking over some business we had to do.
The two of us were actually childhood friends to begin with. We grew up in houses next to each other. He was only a year older than I was.
"Erwin, I never expected you to become the Commander of the most risky branch of all," Charlie chuckled and sipped his tea, "And here I am the assistant to the King. We both went far didn't we?"
"I suppose we did," I chuckled and reached for the list of women eligible to become my bride, "I suppose you are here to hear who I have decided on being my bride?"
"Yes. Right on the dot."
"Well I have picked my one and only soldier on here. Scarlet Wentz. It's my choice to choose her," I simply stated and handed out the papers to him, "Thank you very much."
His eyebrows furrowed a bit, "Why a soldier? Why don't you pick a noble women? Someone with money or someone who is more feminine?!"
"I don't have intentions to marry to a women who I am not familiar with or that I have never even seen in person." I stood up and walked over to my window.
"Honestly I do not think this is a good choice for you Erwin," he shuffled the papers a bit, "You're like a younger brother to me and I only want the best for you."
"Except you are not my brother," I glanced out my window and saw Levi and Scarlet out in the field training with their horses, "You don't know what's best for me because it is my life."
"A man with your amount of power should have a woman by his side who is equal in strong and has power!" Charlie protested.
"I've seen Scarlet. Her willpower to fight makes her strong. She's powerful in her skills when she works. Her passion for others, I'm sure she's much stronger and powerful than the both of us."
"Why Erwin!? I've met all of these women on here and they're magnificent! They're suited for you! Not for that measly soldier!" He pounded on my desk.
"That is enough! I will not tolerate that behavior here in My HQ!" I turned to him, "I will not allow anyone to speak in an ill mannered way towards my soldiers. Especially towards the woman I want to marry."
"I don't even get why the King put her on there! She's just a measly soldier who came from a typical commoner family! She's an orphan! Her brother and her haven't even spoken! Erwin she's probably broken and really difficult!"
I would not allow anyone to talk about the woman I love like that. Friends or not I will not allow it!
"If she is broken I will help put her back together. I do not dwell on a person's history. I want to marry her because of who she is," I began to walk towards him, "And if you cannot accept that than I suggest that you leave here now. If we have to meet again we have to meet again. But other than that I do not want to have to deal with you."
Charlie was backing away, "Erwin what has gotten into you?"
"I just do not tolerate ill behavior like yours. I see we've both matured but in different directions..."
"I should not have recommended the King to make one of your soldiers an option for you too be married to!" Charlie picked up his papers and continued backing away from me, "I'm going to convince the King to not let this happen Erwin!"
"You do that. Don't forget however, you currently are in the branch that the King respects because everyone here sacrifices their lives to go beyond the walls." I stopped just as Charlie reached the walls.
"Er- I..." He opened the door and sighed, "I'm still going to try and get you a more suitable wife Erwin. Possibly even Sarah Albert."
"I respect your efforts. But Scarlet Wentz is the one I want to marry. I recall you saying it was my choice to choose. So it was my Choice to choose Scarlet."
And with that Charlie was off and out of my sight. That was the last time we had spoken.
