Chapter 21

Scarlet's P.O.V.

Charlie was leading us down a long hallway with lots of window in it. It was kind of similar to the Military Police HQ.

"So I suppose your convincing didn't work Charlie?" Erwin smirked a bit.

I gripped onto his arm tighter. Erwin seemed different when he was around Charlie. He wasn't the calm and sophisticated and loving man he usually is.

"Convincing?" I asked.

Erwin's P.O.V.

I've been so focused on Charlie's reaction to everything I haven't been focused on Scarlet.

"Convincing?" Her sweet voice filled my ears as we made our way down the halls.

I looked down at her and noticed that her eyes were filled with worry. They stared deeply into mine awaiting an answer.

"I can tell you everything in the carriage ride back okay?" I smiled down at her reassuringly hoping she would relax a bit.

She stared up at me for a little more and sighed, "A-Alright."

"Erwin how about I tell her? I'm pretty sure she could feel the tension in the air as well." Charlie said as he continued walking.

"Charlie I don't thi-"

I was cut off by him, "Erwin and I were childhood friends."

Scarlet looked amazed by this, "Really? I get to meet one of your friends out of the Survey Corps?"

"We're not friends anymore Scarlet..." I said quietly and held onto her arm as we continued to walk.

"Oh..." Her eyes softened.

"Anyways... back to the story. When Erwin and I were friends two months ago we had a meeting about who he was to be married to. When he said he wanted to marry you I didn't want to allow it."

Scarlet's P.O.V.

He didn't want me to be married to Erwin? How come?

"W-why didn't you want me to be married to him?" I asked.

"Because. Erwin is a man of power and nobility now. You," He stopped and paused for a minute. Charlie clenched his fists and then turned around and lashed out at me, "You aren't good enough for him! You're just a soldier who's good enough for their skills! You're just like Captain Levi! Coming from a horrible past!"

Erwin's P.O.V.

Scarlet hid behind me frightened from Charlie's actions.

"Erwin deserved better! I've seen him grow up and I know he deserves better than a girl who's parents don't even want her anymore!"

Scarlet's eyes were already filled with tears when her parents were brought up, "I-I may not come from a noble f-family but I love Erwin..."

Charlie reached out for Scarlet and then pushed her against the wall, "W-what makes you think you're so good for Erwin huh?! You aren't rich! You aren't noble! A Commander needs a noble women by his side! The good wan doesn't just rely on love!!"

"Charlie that's enough!" I ran over to him and pulled him away from Scarlet, "If you have something to say you can say it to the both of us!"

"Sometimes you don't listen do you Erwin? I already told you. She's not a suitable women for you!"

Scarlet cleared her throat and wiped a tear from her face, "You know why I believe I'm a suitable women for Erwin?"

"Oh so you do have a voice? Well then, Let's hear it." He laughed and then brushed off his sleeve.

"My love for Erwin is true. That's all I have to say. No woman would probably love Erwin as much as I do." She took a deep breath and then stood next to me holding onto my hand.

"E-Erwin! What do you have to say about this?!" Charlie protested.

Honestly I'm sick and tired of Charlie's behavior. I've been sick of it ever since we were little. I never had a say in things we we played. He made every decision.

So when it came to him giving me the list of women to choose from I felt so happy. By that time I had already admired Scarlet so I felt so overjoyed when I had the decision to marry her.

"Charlie I'm done."

His eyes widened, "E-Eh?! Done?! what do you mean?!!!"

"I'm done with your ill behavior now Charlie," I wrapped my arm around Scarlet's waist and pulled her close, "I will not tolerate your ill behavior towards Scarlet. For once something isn't going your way. Learn how to deal with it."

"Erwin..." Scarlet looked up me and smiled.

"What's going on here?" A soldier from the Military Police came running to us.

It was time to cut ties with Charlie. I will not let anyone lay a finger on Scarlet.

"Charlie here had harassed my fiancé. He was to escort us to another executive of the King but he had been acting immature and ill behaved." I explained as Scarlet stayed close to me.

"I'm sorry Commander Erwin and Corporal Scarlet," he bowed formally and then turned to Charlie, "Eirote!!"

Another military police member came in, "Yes sir?!"

"Take Charlie away from the King's guest! The King is expecting them to be in good shape! I will escort them and you will take Charlie into custody," He turned to us and gestured for us to follow him, "This way."

Scarlet's P.O.V.

We were going to meet with the King?!

"The King has been expecting you. We're sorry you had to deal with all that commotion. I'll see to it that he realizes his actions." He bowed again and them began walking away.

Well some people in the Military Police are nice and caring.

"Are you ready Scarlet?" Erwin smiled at me and then knocked on the door.

"It's open." An old raspy voice came from the other side of the door.

Erwin opened the door revealing an old man with grey hair and a grey beard. Different piles of papers and books laid all around his office in neat stacks.

The two of us bowed, "Hello Sir."

"What was all that commotion outside about Erwin Smith?" He didn't take his eyes off of his book.

"A little mishap with your assistant. One of the Military Police helped us. We apologize for keeping you waiting." Erwin was back to his normal gentleman self.

"It's alright. Please take a seat." He closed his book and then looked up at the two of us.

"You must be the one Erwin chose to marry. Scarlet Wentz it is nice to meet you."

"It is nice to meet you too." I spoke in a calm and gentle voice without letting go of Erwin's arm.

"Now we have much to discuss today. Shall we get started?" His Majesty placed on his reading glasses as Erwin handed him the paper work.

He then pulled out the chair for me to sit down and then he took a seat in the chair next to me.

"Erwin there is one thing I would like you to know before we talk about everything else." His face was serious towards the both of us.

"You are marrying my granddaughter. My one and only granddaughter."
