Chapter 14

Logan's POV

"You did it, thank you." Sapphire whispers to me when I catch her.

"Now I need to get you to a doctor-" She cuts me off, and cups my face in her own small hands.

"There's no time." She whispers, smiling.

Why is she smiling? I look around to try and find someone, anyone who can help her, "But-"

She shushes me, and holds onto her blue diamond necklace, "Logan, listen to me. I've lived my life, the only dream I didn't fulfill is being someone's inspiration; being someone to look up to. I haven't fulfilled it, but that's okay, I got back to you, and that's more than what I can ask for."

I can feel a few people walking towards us, and I feel the need to cover up these tears welling up, but then I see Sappy, and I could care less about my reputation.

"Take this, and remember me." She breaks off her necklace and gives it to me, her hands shaking and pale white.

"No, listen, you aren't going to die. Hey, hey, remember that promise I made? Now you have to promise that you won't leave me." My voice shivers, like both our bodies, and she smiles up at me sadly. How can she be smiling?

"I promise to never leave you." A tear slides down her face, as she whispers out her plead to me, "Please be happy, Logan. Please live your life, and don't cry, it makes God sad to see some of his angels in Hell. Please, please do that, and don't forget me."

Her voice gets quieter with every word, her skin paler, her skin colder, and her breathing slows, as well as her heart rate. Her hand clutches onto mine, and I clutch onto her's.

Tears keep falling from my eyes and I desire no more than for Sappy to get better, to heal.

Then, her breathing stops, and her eyes fade to a light brown.

"Sappy?" I ask out to her, my voice shaking, and cracking. I know she's not going to answer, but I want her to. I want her to give my hand a squeeze and tell me it's alright. I want her eyes to flutter closed and open again, full of light and become that dark brown I've grown to love. I want her to start breathing again, and tell me one of her favourite things about the old me.

The sad thing is, I know she won't, but I keep trying.

I take in a shaky breathe and tell her something she didn't get to hear, "You inspired me, Sappy. I looked up to you. Remember when we first met? I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and I wanted to see you more. Then when you left the hotel, and fuelled up my truck, you fuelled up my inspiration to follow you, and give you another chance. Sappy," I stop and take in another breathe, and clutch onto her hand, that's limp against mine, "you were the only person I ever looked up to. You were-are so strong. You made it through childhood with abusive parents, made it through nearly dying a million times, made it through seeing me so different, made it through my anger and confusion, made it through our fights, and made it through all the pain Victor put you through. I-I'm so sorry I couldn't save you, when you saved me. You saved me!" I yell it out, and let my voice cry out to the world, "I love you Sappy!"

Everyone gathers around me, and I cry out in pain, not caring how weak I look to my team.

Hank's sob cries out in the air, mixing with mine, while the rest of the team is silent, listening to our pain, sorrow, and misery.

Gene's hand rests on my shoulder, but I can't talk, and I don't want her to be around me. I shake her off and clutch onto Sapphire's body, close to mine.
