This is the best idea I've ever had.
---"He's so hot, I'm gonna drown."
I stood crouched behind a stack of floating rings with my best friend Miu, the two of us peeking through them to stare at the boy atop the lifeguard chair. We were with all of our other friends on a class trip, but we quickly got sidetracked when we noticed the lifeguard at the water park was like a piece of art.
"You know, I don't think I've seen a hotter guy in my life," Miu murmured to me. "Even with that crusty green hair, he's still a major cutie."
"Shut up, Miu! He pulls it off!" I growled, watching intently as the boy stood up slightly in his chair to blow his whistle. It wasn't long before a group of young girls circled around his chair, trying to talk to the mystery lifeguard. Naturally, it only made sense for an attractive boy to be surrounded by female attention like that.
"Looks like he's got an entourage," she sighed softly. "We're better off just forgetting about his avocado looking ass. What are you gonna do, pretend to drown?"
"No," I stated bluntly. "He's gotta eventually get off work, doesn't he? Or maybe, shift posts? I need to talk to him before he leaves."
"Suit yourself, weirdo," she huffed. "There are plenty of other cute boys and girls here you could easily flirt with, and you want to go with that playboy avocado! More for me, I suppose."
"Shut up!" I yelled, grabbing the inventor by the shoulder. The lifeguard was climbing down from his post, headed towards the water slide. "He's going to the water slide! We gotta go, now is our chance!"
"It's your chance," she growled. "I just spotted a hottie at 7 o clock. You get someone else to come with you."
The inventor ran away, chatting up some random stranger. I grumbled, grabbing one of the rings from the stack. I then headed toward the water slide, surprised that the lifeguard was heading up there alone. Sure enough, he was trading posts with the other lifeguard currently manning the post. I felt my heart pound in excitement as I realized this was my chance.
"Hey there," the boy smiled at me, extending his hand out into a wave. "This your first time going on the slide?"
Wordlessly, I nodded. Though I was able to joke around with Miu earlier, I couldn't even muster the courage to say anything. The lifeguard nodded contently, nonchalantly leaning up against the railing behind him. Thankfully, there was no one else trying to ride the slide, so I was free to talk to him for a little while.
"What brings a girl like you to this place?" The boy asked, his long eyelashes fluttering as he blinked. "Oh, call me Rantarou, by the way."
"(Y/n)," I stared bluntly, scratching the side of my face. "My classmates decided to take a trip here, dragging me along."
"Hah, well, kinda strange to see none of them around," Rantarou laughed. "However, I did see this really small boy hitting people with a pool noodle earlier. I had to yell at him a few times."
"That... would be Ouma," I laughed nervously, putting my arms behind my back. "I go to the Gifted Prisoner's Academy, so naturally all of my classmates are interesting characters."
"I can only imagine," Rantarou laughed. "I had a few friends who ended up getting in there, actually. Not a bad school, to say the least."
"Haha, not at all!" I exclaimed happily.
The boy's attention focused on my hands, which were wrapped around the pool ring. "You realize you need two people to go down the water slide, right? Where are your classmates?"
As if on cue, the sound of whistling and yelling rang through the park. I turned my head and saw a lifeguard angrily pointing at Miu, who had tackled the boy she had met before. "They're... busy."
"I'll go down it with you," the lifeguard offered. "No one is around, anyways. Most of the people here are too interested in each other than the actual, you know, water."
"I can see that," I laughed nervously, my face turning slightly red. I climbed onto the ring, the lifeguard wrapping his arms around me as he climbed on behind me. With a small shove, we began our descent down the slide. I screamed in delight as we raced through it together, the water splashing around us. It wasn't long before we made it back into the pool, the ring capsizing and knocking both of us underwater. I resurfaced quickly, giggling happily.
"That never gets old!" Rantarou exclaimed, wiping the water out of his eyes. "Do you want to go again?"
"Hell yeah!" We kept going on the slide over and over until Rantarou's boss came and yelled at him. As soon as he left, however, we continued to ride on the slide repeatedly. Each time, I felt the same excitement as the time before.
"Hey, (y/n)," Rantarou called to me as we both sat on the edge of the pool together. "You're a lot of fun to hang out with, you know that? You'd be awesome at working here if you wanted to."
"Well, if it means I get to spend time with a cutie you, then sign me up!" I exclaimed happily. The boy stared at me in shock, his green eyes widening.
"You think I'm cute?" He asked in disbelief.
"Who doesn't?!" I chuckled, though I felt incredibly embarrassed. Had I said something wrong?
"Well, I think you're cute too..." he murmured, scooting closer to me. "It'd be nice to spend more time with you, you know. You're a fun girl to be around."
Before I could respond, I saw the boy's face moving closer to mine. I instinctively shut my eyes, parting my lips slightly as he pressed his against mine. He wrapped his arms around me as we kissed, my heart racing like crazy.
"Get it girl!" A shrill voice yelled, causing the two of us to rip away from each other. Sure enough, Miu was standing on the side of the pool, laughing at us in delight. I turned to Rantarou and laughed, unsure of what to say or do.
"I'm sorry about that," I snickered.
"Don't be," he reassured me. "Just let me kiss you again."
