Wasting Away

Shoulders like skulls of birds.

Hips like a hollow saddle.

Ribs like a cage.

Arms like sticks.

Turn down the cake.

The candy.

Said no to the food.

Cheeks like sunken lakes.

Fingers like knobby vines.

Legs like broken branches.

Swallowed more pills.

Threw up what she ate.

Slowly wasting away.

Size zero.

No waist.

No breasts.

No pain.

She is skinny.

Skinny is beautiful.

Thats what they say.

And so now she smiles.

Because you can see every bone.

Skin stretched taut.

Unable to carry children.

Wasting away.
