Chapter 5: Race me

Elena P.O.V.

I had now been at this event for a little over an hour and the only thing I could concentrate on was convincing my parents to let me leave early. I had tried once but Nate and Ethan had decided to come along with me so when I told my mom about how tired I was and asked if I could go home earlier to get some sleep, Nate and Ethan decided to interfere thinking it would be funny to tell my mom that they would be coming home with me. Though it wasn't true, my mom, of course, believed them over me and got mad at me for thinking she would allow me to go home alone with two good looking guys. Though she knew Ethan, she had no idea who Nate was and I could already tell she didn't like him...considering I wanted to be home alone with him and all. Ugh. I got why Ethan would do that- he didn't want me to leave so he wouldn't have to be alone at the event. Everyone here knew that no way in hell would his parents ever let him leave an event like this. But why Nate? I didn't even know the guy.

 I decided to try my dad next, knowing it would be much easier to convince him since I was a daddy's girl and all. I began towards him when I noticed Ethan and Nate were still following me. "Ok you guys need to stop following me this is not follow the leader! Go away!" They looked a little surprised but after a while they both walked away in different directions. I wonder if Ethan also didn't like Nate? Probably not.

I continued towards my dad when I noticed he was alone. "Daddy! I've been here for almost two hours now and I have like no friends here and i'm really tired! Can I please go home already so I can sleep or something" I gave him my puppy dog eyes that I knew he couldn't resist. I knew he was in a good mood when he said "You've always been a good liar, but not good enough for me" He smiled, referring to the fact that I said I had no friends here. You see, my dad was a lawyer so he was great at reading people, especially me. "You can leave only on one condition, you don't tell your mom I was the one who gave you permission." I grinned at his response and gave him a quick hug before I made my way to the front so I could pick up my car from the valet.

As I waited for them to bring my Lexus to me, I heard someone whisper to me "So your dad agreed huh?" It was Nate, I recognized his voice and the tingles I felt from his breathe on my neck. "Ya. I can finally get away from all the creeps here, like you" I smirked as he frowned.

My Lexus pulled up just then and as I took the keys and was about to get in, I noticed a black Tesla pull up next to my Lexus. The car was beautiful but what bothered me was when Nate got inside it.

I got into my Lexus and started it, purposely revving my engine to signal that I wanted to race.

I drove out of the hotel parking lot and onto the road with Nate's car closely behind mine. I stopped at the red stop light where Nate pulled up beside me and rolled his window down "You don't really think you can beat me in a race do you?" I smirked in response, answering his question and turned to pay attention to the signal. I was sure if I couldn't beat him, I could at least give him a challenge. I was a good yet reckless driver, as I had been told many times. I was stopped by the cops plenty of times for speeding but used my charms to get away with it. 

The second the signal turned to green, the both of us sped off in the same direction. There weren't many other cars on the road, but the few that were there, I cut off easily.

We drove for about another five minutes on high speed, both of us mostly close to each other. Neither of us were winning from the other when all of a sudden Nate suddenly sped off much ahead. Unbelievable! I couldn't tell whether he had been going easy on me the whole time or he really didn't know he could go as fast. 

I saw him slow down to get to my car as he pointed to an empty parking lot. I debated on whether I should stop or not. I didn't know this guy too well, what if he was a serial killer? Or a drug dealer? I decided against stopping, letting my fears get to me. When he noticed I wasn't going to stop, he pulled up next to me again giving me a questioning look. I frowned, nodding my head no.

I guess he understood why I didn't want to stop because next he pointed to another parking lot that was more full with people. It was close by a McDonalds and Starbucks and looked a lot more public. I decided it was safe enough and pulled into the lot behind him, parking at the nearest parking lot. He got out of his car and walked towards me.

I rolled my window down "You're not as bad as I thought you'd be" he said looking a little proud. I raised an eyebrow looking a little amused, that's what he pulled me over for? He continued when he realized I wasn't going to say anything "How about I buy you a coffee?" Ok that sounded really good right now. "Thanks. But I think I'm good." I smiled. "Damn, so you really are a hard nutshell to crack aren't you" he must have noticed the hesitation in my voice when I said no. "Well we all love a little bit of a chase" he waited for me to respond and when he realized I wasn't going to say anything he said "Alright then Ms.Olson, I guess ill see you next time" he winked and walked back to his car smirking. He seemed a lot more cheerful than he had been earlier.

I watched as he drove off and waited a few minutes before I got out of the car and walked to Starbucks. Yes, I was stubborn. I wanted coffee but not with him, at least not right now. I barely even knew the guy. Plus I knew he'd try to pay and I'm not too fond of letting guys pay for me.

Nate P.O.V.

I couldn't stop smiling as I drove out of the parking lot we had stopped at. She was beautiful. And she was my mate. I didn't know how I would break the news to the pack yet, hell, I didn't even know how I would tell her, she was after all a human. We were forbidden from telling any humans our secret but considering she's my mate I would have to, I just don't know how. She was just as stubborn as I was and I could already tell without even having been around her for long. I'm sure she felt some of the mating bond pulls but she was resisting.

Right now though, my priority was to keep her safe and to figure out a way to break the news to the rest of the pack. I also need to explain myself to Logan. I had been a little rough on him earlier today. Speaking of Logan, that reminds me. I need to make sure Elena stays safe so I get my phone out and dial Logan's number.

"Logan, I need another favor. I need you to get three of my best guards and have them surround Elena's house, I need to know she's safe at all times."

"Yes Alpha. Anything else you need?" He sounded a little frustrated, probably because I had been using my alpha tone on him all day without explaining myself. Not that I needed to, but Logan was my best friend and the beta of my pack, so he usually knows everything that's going on. "No. I'll be at the pack house in about fifteen minutes, i'll explain everything to you then. Again, i need eyes on Elena, make sure she's safe." 

"Yes sir." He responded sarcastically and we both cut the line off.

Now I just needed to figure out how I was going to get Elenas attention, this time for good.
