Chapter 1-

"Katelyn Summers?"

I raise my head from the wooden desk at the sound of my name.

"Here."

Giving a little wave as the teacher called attendance, I leaned back into my seat blowing out a breath of air. All I wanted, was for the day to be over already.

"Could you look any more depressed on a Friday?"

A soft whisper from the desk next to me made me turn biting back a smile.

"I don't know, could I?"

She rolled her eyes as I could see a glint of amusement in them.

"Amanda, stop talking to Katelyn while I'm trying to teach please."

Hearing the stern warning, she turned back towards the front of the room, not before sticking her tongue out at me.
There's my best friend for you. Amanda Williams.

The simple, easy things were what I liked about my life. Routine, routine. Sometimes the hardest thing to do, was to talk about something exciting that's happened to me, or something interesting about my life.
Literally all I did, was eat, sleep, binge watch, go to school, and stare at social media all day. It's not like I had anything exciting to do anyways.

"Earth to Katelyn. Do you want to spend the weekend here?"

Blinking, Amanda was waving her hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Thank god class is over."

I looked up seeing the grumpy look on the teachers face since he most likely heard me.
Shoving my books into my bag, I pulled it onto one shoulder in a hurry to leave.

"Could you have said that any louder?" Laughing, Amanda shook her head as the two of us made our way through the crowded halls.

"Gosh, so many questions today."

Smiling, I shook my head as we approached the parking lot in front of the school. Walking up to Amanda's car, she got into the drivers seat and I sat in the passenger seat.

Yep. I depend on my best friend to drive me around because my parents don't think I need a car. My other brother Aaron had one, but that doesn't mean I don't need one. He's only maybe a year older than me and he was in his first year of college living at home instead of a dorm I might add.

Come on. I'm seventeen years old already.

"Home today?"

While Amanda pulled out of the parking lot, I reached forward turning on the radio.

"Yeah, just like every Friday. You should know this by now." Laughing, I sat back looking straight ahead as I could feel her gaze on me.

"Come to a party with me?"

"No."

"C'mon Katelyn pleaseeeeee."

"You know I don't like parties."

"But you've never even been to one."

"And I never will."

"Why do I even bother with you."

Sighing, she ran her hand through her wavy brown hair.

"Because you love me, and cause I feed you."

The two of us laughed as we pulled up to the driveway of my house.

"You got me there Katelyn."

Smiling, she leaned over giving me a hug before I grabbed my bag getting out of the car. After waving a good bye, I unlocked the door getting inside and shutting it. Leaning my back onto it, I slid down to the floor blowing out a breath of air.
Looking around, I took in the familiar surroundings. Every detail in the simple house fit well with my simple lifestyle.

"Simple just like me."
