Percy woke up and immediately regretted the decision. His head felt as if someone had strapped it into a vice and he couldn't breath without feeling as if sandpaper were being forced down his throat. Percy groaned and opened his eyes. The faint evening light slanting through the window of the Poseidon cabin only succeeded in making his headache worse. He snapped his eyes shut again and prayed to any god who was listening to put him out of his misery. Percy was wracked with chills, even though it was easily eighty degrees outside.
"Percy?" Annabeth asked sleepily. She sat up on her elbow and faced him.
Percy slowly rolled over to face Annabeth, every move aggravating his headache.
"Oh my gods! are you okay?" Annabeth immediately noticed how Percy was sweating and shivering. She reached out to feel his forehead, a move he usually resisted. He leaned into her touch however, and Annabeth could feel the heat of a fever she was sure hadn't been there a few hours ago.
"I'm fine." At least that's what Percy tried to say. All that came out was a painful hissing noise. He winced and grabbed at his throat.
"What in Hades name?" Annabeth asked. Percy only offered a shrug of his shoulders.
"Don't try to speak." Annabeth added helpfully. Percy just gave her a look that said "thanks for the advice Captain Obvious" before letting loose a coughing fit so severe Annabeth was almost sure one of his lungs would end up on the bed between them.
"We need to get you to the infirmary." Annabeth demanded as she got up off of the bed.
Percy made no argument. This worried Annabeth. He must feel really awful if he wasn't trying to put up an argument about going to the infirmary. Annabeth usually had to drag him to see a healer.
Percy made to stand up and put on his sneakers when a wave of vertigo hit him, making him sit back on the bed and grab at the blanket trying to make the room stop spinning.
"Dizzy." Percy explained painfully when Annabeth looked back at him with concern. He resolved to sit down and pull on his sneakers and Annabeth helped him stand when he was done in case of another dizzy spell.
The two were slowly making their way out the door when Percy stopped to grab a pair of sunglasses, not wanting to make his headache any worse than it already was. Percy was grateful that everyone was at the dining pavilion and not at activities as he and Annabeth walked through camp. He was fairly certain that his head would explode from all of the noises. Percy shivered and coughed again, aggravating his already raw throat.
Annabeth lead Percy into the infirmary and was grateful to see Will talking to one of his siblings, Austin.
"Will! I need your help!" She hadn't meant to sound so urgent, but Annabeth had never been one to be calm in a crisis that involved her boyfriend.
Will looked over toward them and seemed to trail off from whatever he was talking about with Austin. He quickly walked over to Annabeth, who was basically holding Percy up at this point.
