When The Seconds Change

Chapter 20

"What's going on?"

After stopping some bad guys and saving some cheerleaders, Barry and Wally returned to S.T.A.R Labs. Emely went to check up on the twins and Cisco followed her. 

"What do you mean?"

Cisco showed Emely the necklace that Julian and Hunter made. They two men also made a necklace for Caitlin, except Emely's was a flash symbol instead of a snowflake. 

"It's a Flash necklace."

"They told me that it was designed especially for you. And only you."

Emely sighed. "Cisco, look-"

"You are my best friend. You know you can tell me anything."

Emely looked at the twins before looking at Cisco. 

"This necklace is for helping me contain my powers. Just like Caitlin's."

"You don't want to use your powers? Why?"

Emely shook her head. "The city doesn't need three speedster. I mean, Wally already took his place by Barry's side. Maybe I should lay back for awhile."

Cisco didn't reply. 

"You noticed that I was lagging before I knew I was pregnant. Maybe that was telling me that my time as a superhero is over."

Emely took the necklace and placed it on. She looked at Cisco who had a sad expression. 

"You're a good speedster though."

Emely nodded. "I know. But maybe I should lay low for some time. Just please don't tell anyone about this. Especially Barry."

Cisco nodded. "All right. I won't."

Emely left to CCPD with the twins and saw Cecile working on some papers. 

"Hey, are you okay now that the twins are back?"

Emely nodded. "Yeah. I'm keeping them close by so nothing happens to them."

"That's reasonable."

Joe came walking up to them and greeted both women. 

"I'll be up in the lab."

They both nodded at her before she began to walk up the stairs. Emely set the twins at a place where she could keep an eye on them as she sat down. She glanced at them and then decided to see if the necklace really worked. She ran across the room normally, no powers being used. She smiled as she returned to her seat as Joe walked in. 

"You and I need to talk."

She fiddled with the necklace as Joe approached her. 

"You really think that the city doesn't need as many heroes as they could get?"

"Joe, you heard what Detective Patterson said. You know Wally is becoming a better hero. And plus, it's too late for me to go back."

Emely glanced down at the necklace and Joe noticed. 

"What does that do?"

"Takes away my powers."

Joe sighed. "You're really going through with this, aren't you?"

Emely nodded. "I think that's the best option for now. And I'm not just doing it for me."

A cry broke out from Kehlani as Samuel was still asleep. Emely went over to pick her up and began to rock her.

"You're doing this for them, aren't you?"

Emely stared at the baby in her arms before nodded again.
