Chapter 8 ~ Nick

8. 'What about us?'

Well, long story short - I saw Jess after 4 weeks and 3 minutes later she collapsed. What the hell?!

'Where is she?', Cece ran into the waiting room.

'She is in a room, doctors are with her right now. She will be fine.', Schmidt tried to calm her.

'But what the hell happened?!', Cece asked.

'Long story short, she just collapsed in the middle of the room. We have no idea why. Or so we, Nick?', Schmidt quizzically looked at me.

I stared at the wall.

'I...', words I wanted to say didn't want to come out. I knew Jess will be fine, but... I just couldn't convince myself that it didn't have anything to do with us... With me. Maybe it scared her to say what she wanted to say because she was afraid I don't feel the same anymore. But I do. More than before.

More than ever.

'I don't know.', I finally blurted.

Schmidt and Cece shared some looks, for which I couldn't figure out what they meant. Then the doctor came.

'I am very sorry,' doctor started as the blood in my veins froze, 'to interrupt you, but Miss Day is awake. You can visit her.'

I felt relieved. I felt like I wanted to punch the doctor in his face for dramaticness.

But she was okay. It was all that mattered.

I ran to her room and Cece and Schmidt followed me. She was lying in her bed looking pale and sick as ever but she was alive and well - it's the most important thing. I had an odd feeling in my stomach about why she collapsed but I brushed it off.

'Jess! What happened? Are you okay? I was so worried! God, don't ever do that to me again!', Cece blurted before anyone had a chance to open their mouth.

'I... I have no idea what the hell happened. I was just fine and when I wanted to say hi to Schmidt and Nick... No words were coming out of my mouth and I fainted.', Jess said as she shot me an embarrassed look. What was that all about?

'Sweetie, we were so worried! Do doctors know what happened?', Cece asked and by the look at Jess' face I knee the answer: they didn't have a clue.

'They have no idea, but they say that I shouldn't have any problems like this in the future.', she said and I grew even more worried.
'Thank god. Cece and I are going to eat something. Nick, wanna come with us?', Schmidt asked and I shook my head no.

The happy couple left and the moment I feared came.
Before any of us said anything, we just looked at each other. It wasn't the awkward silence when you don't know what to say, we were just remembering the lines of faces and trying tamale up for every second we avoi - she avoided me. She smiled at me. I couldn't stop a smile appearing on my face as well. I missed her so much. I was trying to think of appropriate words to say but then I figured actions would work better now. So I leaned to her bed and kissed her.

She kissed me back.
