I held the small child closer to my chest, she whimpered, closing her small fingers around my own. A frown twitched at my face, and I continued down the dark hallway. I stopped in front of a door, and waited silently, the fire of the torches linking harmlessly against the stone wall. The door creaked open, and a man bowed, gesturing for me to go in. Laying the child on the bed, I let out a deep sigh, and the man stood behind me uncertainty.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this?" I bit my lip and glanced back at him.
"We don't have many other options, do we?"
His eyes darkened, but he nodded, sitting on the small wooden stool. "Then do what you must."
My palms were sweaty as I lifted my arms to the girl who slept soundly in the bed. "Please forgive me." A sudden burst of light brought the child awake, and she started bawling. Light leaked from her body and found its way to my hand, swirling into a large ball of power.
"Get the whip." I yelped, sweat trickling down my face. His eyes widened as he raced out of the room. He came back a few moments later, thrusting a whip into my hands. Grimacing from the immense power, I pressed the power against the whip and it absorbed it cracking a little at first from the force. It shone a beautiful yellow for a fraction of a second before seemingly turning back to a normal whip. I picked it up tentatively, and handed it to him.
"Take this somewhere safe, and secure it."
He took the whip, and glanced up at me, his eyes wide.
"Will she ever get this back?"
A small sigh escaped my lips.
"Only when something breaks will she receive them once again.
Something that can never be fixed."
